Project Compost
The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis has launched a two-year pilot composting program titled “Project Compost”. The program focuses on a partnership of restaurants along Washington Avenue between 9th and 14th, all working together to provide environmental stewardship through waste reduction and composting. The work plan consists of each participating eatery depositing pre and post compostable waste into compost bins located on-site with the primary goal to divert over 1500 tons of organic food waste from our landfill per year, totaling a waste diversion goal of 3000 tons over the two-year life of the pilot project. Upon completion of this demonstration project, our goal is to encourage participating establishments throughout Downtown to advance the composting and recycling process independently. This project was made possible by a grant from the Solid Waste Management District and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. For more information, contact Najah Fennoy at 314.436.6500 ext. 240.

TREx Success Update

T-REx, The Regional Entrepreneur Exchange, continues to expand adding another quadrant this month to accommodate the growing population of members. By the end of September, a little over a year since its opening, T-REx will be occupying over 60,000 sq/ft. in the Railway Exchange. The growth of T-REx can be attributed to the success of companies such as Systematic Revenue. After getting accepted into Capital Innovators, Systematic Revenue moved into T-REx to occupy one office for President Don Breckenridge and his business partner. Today, Systematic Revenue has 5 employees, 2 partners and 12 contractors and the team occupies 5 offices. The newest class of Capital Innovator companies will be moving in at the end of this month. TREx is a partnership of the Downtown CID, SLDC and RCGA. For more information about T-REx, contact Rosa Mayer at 314.436.6500 ext. 238.

Help Build a Playground

Friends of Lucas Park will be hosting volunteer work days on September 7 & 8 that will result in the construction of a playground for Downtown’s children at Lucas Park, located just north of the Central Library. On Friday, prep day, all of the project materials including soil, concrete, the wood fiber safety flooring, and the playground components themselves will be delivered, unloaded and staged for build day. On Saturday, build day, over 50 volunteers will assemble the playground, pour the concrete footings, install the wood fiber safety flooring, and make other site improvements. By the end of the day on Saturday, Downtown’s new playground will be complete, subject to only letting the concrete footings harden. Build day will be a festive event in addition to a hard work day, with a bounce castle, children’s readings, face painting, and many other activities for children. Please join us from 8am to 4pm this Saturday to celebrate the community coming together and building a playground. The first Downtown Playdate will occur at 6pm on the following Tuesday. This project is an initiative of the Friends of Lucas Park, a new 501c-3 organization. For more information, click here
