Youths of the Year Receive
College Scholarships
Congratulations to 2017 Youth of the Year JaLisa Wines who recently received the Johnny Londoff Chevrolet Scholarship! JaLisa has been a member of the Club for nine years, graduated from Confluence Preparatory Academy and will attend Truman State University in the fall. She plans to become an Accountant.

And, Maya Jones, 2015 Youth of the Year, was one of ten teens who received a scholarship from Planet Fitness through Boys & Girls Clubs of America! Maya has been a member of the Club for ten years, graduated from Soldan International Studies High School and will be attending Hampton University this fall. She plans to become a Physical Therapist.

STL Surge Partners with BGCSTL
Thanks to Khalia Collier, former Club kid and owner/GM of the St. Louis Surge Women’s basketball team, Club summer campers will be able to experience Surge Power Hour skills and drills training! The first of two events was recently held where four Surge players joined Khalia for the Power Hour at Larimore Elementary with nearly 100 members participating. The students not only learned what it takes to be a professional athlete, but what it means to be a student athlete first and the importance of good character. All the students were charged up to meet the team and experience Surge basketball! To support the Surge home games, click here.

STEM in the Summer
Thanks to MilliporeSigma for bringing the Curiosity Cube, a retrofitted shipping container that has been transformed into a mobile science lab, to our Clubs this summer! Campers/future scientists were able to conduct hands on science experiments, engage in STEM activities, and discuss the possibilities of a career in STEM. The Curiosity Cube travels all over the world, is equipped with the latest technology and provides a learning environment where visitors of all ages can become immersed in specific science topics-from learning about how DNA works to building a custom microbe using a 3D printer.

Alumni Inducted into the 2017 Hall of Honor
BGCSTL announced its 2017 Alumni Hall of Honor inductees during the annual Recognition event, where staff, board members, volunteers and other supporters are acknowledged and celebrated for their commitment to our Club children. Jerome Tomlin, Grace Conner, Lorenzo Baylor Sr., Susan Jones, Byron Price & Jordan “Shorty da Prince” Johnson are the newest members. The Hall of Honor recognizes outstanding alumni for achievements in their respective fields, commitment to leadership, serving our community’s youth, contributions to the St. Louis community and for living out the mission of the Club.

Club President, Dr. Flint Fowler said of the inductees, “This is an outstanding group of alumni who individually and collectively represent the power of a Boys & Girls Club experience. We are proud of the accomplishments and contributions they are making to their communities.”

Here Today Shopping Spree
The Here Today retail stores recently partnered with Trish Gazall from KEZK on a random acts of kindness program called “Today’s Your Day.” The program surprises deserving people and organizations with donations from their stores – so far gifting a mom with a donation during Mother’s Day. For this month, the Here Today owners wanted to choose a local organization that’s helping deserving kids have a fun-filled summer – and BGCSTL was selected and given a shopping “spree”!

Trish accompanied Dr. Flint Fowler, Club President, on his shopping trip to purchase snacks for Club youth where they also filmed a short video that will be posted on both the KEZK and Here Today website and social media later this week. Trish will also promote the BGCSTL experience and camps on her show. To learn more about or support the Here Today stores, click here.

Richard H. Amberg Award
Robert “Bob” Fulstone, who has served as a dedicated board member and volunteer for over 25 years, is the 2017 Richard H. Amberg Awardee! The Richard H. Amberg Award is presented to a Board member whose leadership and commitment has a profound impact on the Club’s ability to achieve its mission. Bob has served the Club in many areas but is mostly known for generously dedicating his time to the Youth of the Year event in Jefferson City. During Bob’s acceptance speech, he said “Other than my marriage of 50 years to my wife Kathy, the Boys & Girls Clubs is one of my greatest joys!”

They also started writing their own songs in Music Studio as well as participate in Passport to Manhood and Smart Girls Sessions! BGCSTL is offering day camp for all ages across ten locations this year. Our camp touches youth across the region and is one of the top camps searched for on BluePrint4SummerSTL. Golf Tournament Weekend
Thanks to the sponsors, supporters, guests and the committee for making one of the most anticipated Club events of the year, the Jim Butler Golf Tournament a success! Each year the event is held to support Club programs where members learn to live healthy and productive lives. In addition to golfing at the Country Club of St. Albans, a dinner and auction was held at Busch Stadium as a way to celebrate the Club’s 50th anniversary. For the first time ever in the stadium's history, attendees were able to hit golf balls into the field as well as enjoy dinner and an auction. To view photos from the Golf Dinner & Auction, click here. Or, the Jim Butler Golf Tournament, here.

Summer Camp Locations & Dates

"I learned to swim through the Boys & Girls Club while many of my friends today still don’t know how to swim. I vividly remember the swim teacher instructing me on the back stroke and quelling my fears when I stopped in the middle of the deep end and didn’t quite know what to do. Swimming, given its importance as a life skill, was an important part of my experience. I didn’t have access to a public pool and would have never gotten to be a swimmer without the Boys & Girls Club."
