The audit, which was conducted by the Daniel Jones & Associates accounting firm, reported no findings or questioned costs. The WSD Board of Education approved the audit at its November meeting.

Jacob Myers, Senior Accountant with Daniel Jones & Associates, told the School Board that after spending several weeks reviewing information from the WSD Business Department, all accounting practices, financial records and management complied with state and federal requirements.

WSD Teachers Provide Innovative Learning Opportunities for Students
WSD educators are always looking for innovative ways to engage students in learning. Here are two examples that not only benefit students, but staff members as well:
 Heritage Coffee Cart

Students in Liz Rowe’s Essential Skills class at Heritage Intermediate are learning how to effectively manage a small business to the delight of staff members looking for an afternoon pick-me-up. The students are participating in a Project-Based Learning activity they call the “Heritage Coffee Cart.” Under the supervision of Ms. Rowe, each student is assigned a role in the business that includes checking orders, making coffee, delivering it, and collecting and counting the proceeds. The cart is operated once a week on Fridays and the Wentzville Starbucks location is supplying materials for the project. “Students have the ability to use their problem-solving, social and life skills in real-world situations allowing them to feel successful and accomplished,” shared Ms. Rowe. “Friday is my favorite day of the week as I love to see the excitement that my students have when they arrive at school on Coffee Cart day!”
Green Tree Just Chillin' Lemonade Stand

Monica Gillespie’s students at Green Tree Elementary voluntarily started the “Just Chillin’ Lemonade Stand” earlier this school year to raise money for the school's Polar Plunge Team that benefits Special Olympics Missouri.

The students take orders from staff members by phone, sign up sheet and electronically, and donations are accepted in exchange for the drinks. Each Friday, the 3rd through 5th grade students brew tea and make lemonade and deliver the drinks on their cart.

"The students are learning organization, following directions, communication, problem solving, food handling, money counting and working together in a meaningful way," shared Dr. Gillespie. "The 'Just Chillin' Lemonade Stand' volunteers are making a difference in their school, community and the state."

Notice of Board Election

Would you like to run for the WSD Board of Education? Candidate filing closes on January 17th at 5:00 p.m. for an open WSD seat in the April 4, 2017 election. There will be three open seats in the election and each seat is for a 3-year term.

Interested parties can contact Jacinda Kirk at 327-3800, ext. 20323 for more information.

Kindergarten Registration Dates Set

Dates have been set for the WSD's kindergarten registration/screening process. This event is for all children who will turn five BEFORE August 1, 2017. If your child has not been screened at the Parents as Teachers office or his/her preschool this year, appointments are required and can be made by contacting the Parents as Teachers office at 327-3863, ext. 22281.

Screening appointments are filled on a first come, first served basis. While every effort will be made to accommodate you at your child’s school, it is a possibility that you may be required to have a screening at another elementary school in the district. With the new schools and the new elementary boundaries for the 2017-18 school year, your child’s completed records will ultimately be transferred to the school your child is slated to attend. For more information, please visit the District website.

K-6 Boundaries Approved for 2017-18
The Board of Education has unanimously approved new boundaries for all elementary schools beginning next fall with the 2017-18 school year.

The K-6 Plan for Growth was formulated by the Board of Education following the passing of Proposition E in April of 2015. The plan moves sixth grade out of the three existing WSD middle schools and into the eleven District elementary schools in order to relieve overcrowding at the middle schools without having to request an additional tax increase from WSD residents. We have two new elementary schools that will open in time for the 2017-18 school year to facilitate the switch to K-6 elementary buildings - one on Highway Z in Wentzville (funded through Prop E), and one on Golden Gate Parkway in Foristell (funded partially from reserves). All elementary schools are affected by the boundary change. Middle and high school boundaries are NOT changing.

Please take a moment and use the online locator tool to plug in your address and confirm where your child will attend school next year. Feel free to contact Community Relations or Administrative Services with any questions.

Inclement Weather Reminders
Timely communication with our District families is always a priority, but especially important in emergency school closing situations. If WSD schools are forced to close due to inclement weather or other factors (i.e. power outages, water main breaks) parents/guardians and students will be notified in the following ways:

District Phone Call/Text/Email
You always have the option of how you would like to receive notifications (you can turn off the call and only receive texts and/or emails for example). Simply contact the Community Relations office to change your delivery preferences by calling 636/327-3800, ext. 20357 or email Kathy DeLaquil.

Immunization Requirements

In preparation for the 2017-2018 school year we would like to inform you of the immunization requirements in the state of Missouri. State law and health regulations require students to be properly immunized and provide verification to attend school, unless they are exempt.

*Students entering 8th grade will need a Tdap vaccine (Tetnus Booster) and MCV (meningococcal vaccine)

*Students who are entering 12th grade must have two doses of MCV (unless the first dose was administered after the student's 16th birthday, then only one dose is required).

*All new students and incoming kindergarten students must be up-to- date on all required immunizations.

Your child’s medical provider can provide more information concerning vaccines and requirements. Vaccines are also offered through the St. Charles County Health Department.

Please provide proof of immunizations by August 1, 2017 to your student's school nurse.
