Snow Days and The School Calendar

The WSD Board of Education held a special meeting on Tuesday, January 28 to discuss the remainder of the 2013-14 Academic Calendar. The seven “Inclement Weather Make-up Days” or snow days used since the first of the year would have meant that the last day of the current school year was extended from Thursday, May 29 to Monday, June 9. After much discussion, the Board unanimously voted to change February 14, 17, and April 18 from professional development and vacation days to regular instructional days. This change makes up for three of the snow days used so far this year, and moves the last day of school to Wednesday, June 4. Any more snow days will be made up on a 1:1 basis, and the Board also voted unanimously to make Friday, June 6 the last possible day of school for the 2013-14 school year.  >>>Full Story

Timberland Student Uses Birthday Funds to Purchase Bicycles for Local Kids in Need

Timberland freshman Seth Thompson has made it a personal mission to help less fortunate children during the holidays. Seth has a November birthday and for the past eight years he has held a birthday party, which sounds rather ordinary. What makes Seth's story extraordinary, however, is that at this party each year he asks his guests to donate to his bicycle fund rather than giving him a gift. He then takes the collected donations and purchases brand new bicycles he can donate to kids in need for Christmas. This year alone Seth was able to purchase and donate 21 brand new bicycles, bringing his cumulative total to over 100 donated bikes. This year Seth gave the new bikes to Living Lord Lutheran Church to distribute to their families.

From Wolf to Badger to Bronco, it’s been a wonderful “run” for Montee, and the local and national media have put a spotlight on Montee and his alma mater this week.
