First Day of School 2017-18

WELCOME BACK! We had a great first day of school Thursday in the WSD and we are looking forward to another outstanding year for each and every one of our students! #WSDlearns #WelcomeBackWSD

WSD Opens Two Schools in Two Days

It has been a historic week for the WSD as we opened two new schools, completing the preparation for our shift to K-6 elementary buildings. Wabash and Stone Creek Elementary are the largest elementary schools we have built in the history of the WSD. Stone Creek was the result of Proposition E passing in 2015 and welcomed 830 students on the first day. Wabash opened its doors to just over 800 students - paid for using existing and borrowed funds WITHOUT asking voters for a tax increase.

Important Eclipse Information

We are very excited not only about the new school year but the Total Solar Eclipse that will occur this Monday, August 21st. What a tremendous learning opportunity for our students! Unfortunately, there is a great deal of misinformation circulating and we want to clarify a few things for everyone. Most importantly, the glasses we ordered are from Rainbow Symphony, Inc. in California and they are an American Astronomical Society authorized manufacturer of eclipse glasses and handheld solar viewers verified to be compliant with the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard.

Additional safety information has been compiled HERE by our WSD K-12 Science Content Leader Meghan Aydelott, who has been working with leaders across the state to verify and compile accurate information.

Classroom teachers will be providing additional details regarding the viewing location for their particular class as the event approaches and they will be reviewing with students the importance of following instructions to safely view the eclipse.

If you would like to OPT YOUR CHILD OUT of the eclipse viewing, please complete THIS FORM and return it to your child's school by Friday, August 18th. An alternative indoor activity will be provided.

Late Start Supervision Registration

The WSD will be providing supervision for K-6 students who need to be dropped off at the regular start time on scheduled Late Start Days in the 2017-18 school year. This is separate from our Before Care Program through Chautauqua, so if you are registered for Chautauqua, please do not fill out this form.

The deadline to register for the first Late Start Day is Monday, August 21, 2017.

The fee is $10 per child for each late start day you would like to register for. Please fill out the REGISTRATION FORM first prior to paying. If you choose to use PayPal, there is a sliding scale charge assessed to cover processing costs. You also have the option to send a check in to your child's school.
