 Welcome Back WSD!
What a great first two weeks we have had in the WSD! The energy and excitement at every grade level has been inspiring. Let's make it a fantastic school year for all!

Welcome Back!!

MAP Scores Released:
WSD Remains in the Top 10% in the State!

Preliminary Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) results are in from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Wentzville School District remains in the TOP 10% IN THE STATE! These results do not include MAP-A or MAP Alternative scores that less than 1% of our students take, but we are pleased to report that given the scores that have been released, we are ranked 47th out of 518 school districts. This is the 6th consecutive year that the WSD has scored in the top 10% of all school districts in Missouri. At the same time, the District's ADA spending remains the lowest in St. Charles County and below the state average, so the District continues to provide a high quality education at a low cost. Well done WSD students and staff!

 Communication Reminders

WSD parents do not need an account with Peachjar to receive flyers electronically. However, if you would like to change your settings as to how often you receive flyers, you will need to register and set up a username and password in order to do so. If you choose not to receive the flyers at all, you can opt out at the bottom of any email you receive from Peachjar. In addition, you can always view the current flyers for your school on your school website by clicking on the Peachjar button.

The WSD utilizes Blackboard and MarketVolt to send messages to parents and staff members. If you would like to customize how you receive messages (for example, you only want to receive texts and not calls or vice versa) you can contact the Community Relations Department and we will be happy to set those preferences for you. Call 636-327-3800 and ask for Community Relations or email Mary LaPak or Kathy DeLaquil.

 Proposition E: Construction Timeline
The Board of Education has approved the first bid awards to begin construction projects passed by voters in the spring. A tremendous amount of work and planning goes into each of these projects prior to the start of construction, but we are pleased to share construction will begin next week on the Duello, Discovery Ridge and Lakeview Elementary expansions. Those projects are projected to be completed in May. Additional details will be shared next week with staff at those buildings and with parents who have students in those buildings. Attached is a tentative timeline for all Prop E projects passed by WSD voters.

5th Annual Back to School Fair - Thank You!

Thank you to all our vendors, volunteers, donors and sponsors who helped to make our 5th annual Back to School Fair a huge success!

Thousands of people filled Holt High School on a beautiful day and we gave away over $7,000 in free school supplies! A mom was overheard saying to her sons as they left the Fair, "How cool is it that we live in a school district that would do something like that for us?" The truth is, we live in a caring and generous COMMUNITY that is eager to help our students and families and we are proud to be an integral part of it.

A special thank you to our Corporate Sponsors for this year's Fair:

Have you Downloaded
the New WSD App?

Over 2,600 people have already downloaded the new WSD app which features customization for parents to follow their child's school, view news stories, reminders and important alerts - all from a smart phone. Based on user feedback, we are already tweaking the information available and welcome your thoughts and suggestions. We've recently added lunch menus and sports information from our high schools thanks to your input. Feel free to contact Community Relations with additional ideas on how we can improve the app for all users. Simply email or utilize the tip line in the app to send feedback. The app is available for both android devices and iPhones.

Timberland Students Attend Missouri Chamber of Commerce Leadership in Practice Camp

Thirteen Timberland High School students were selected and took part in the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Leadership in Practice Camp at Westminster College this summer. The Leadership in Practice program was developed almost 20 years ago by the Missouri Chamber Education Foundation to engage Missouri high school students in hands on, real world leadership training. Leadership in Practice is a lea
dership immersion program which takes place over four days each June, where Missouri’s brightest rising sophomore student leaders come together to learn what characteristics and tools tomorrow’s leaders need to meet the challenges of the world. Students selected to attend the camp must exhibit character, scholarship and leadership in the school community. The key to the training is that students learn by participating in games, activities and simulations. They evaluate their leadership skills based on what they learn and then set goals on how to improve those skills. The camp motto is simple- “Engage, Inspire, Lead!”

Congratulations to the following students who were selected and attended the program:

Cullen Barr, Zoe Binz, Christine Crowe, Kaitlin Gera, Grace Langston, Kylie Morrow, Nicklaus Niles, Gavin Nowlin, Jacob Polly, Hadley Poole, Mackenzie Shepard, Bailey Shumaker and Grace Thornton.
 District-Wide Homecoming Parade

On September 26th we will host our first ever WSD Homecoming Parade that includes all three high schools.  A variety of unusual circumstances led homecoming at Timberland and Holt to be scheduled on the same day and rather than have separate parades, the schools got together and decided to hold one large parade in Wentzville which will include Liberty High School as well. This is an opportunity to bring our schools and our community together for a great event and we hope you will join us for the parade that day which will begin at 9am on Campus Drive and Pearce Boulevard, travel east on Pearce Boulevard and end at Luekenhaus Boulevard near the American Legion.

 College Algebra Dual Enrollment
Offered at High Schools

For the 2015-2016 school year, all college algebra students will have the option to dual enroll with Missouri Baptist for 3 hours of college credit.  College algebra is a semester course at our high schools.  If a student decides to enroll in Missouri Baptist for college algebra, the student will take 4 assessments written by a Missouri Baptist Mathematics Professor.  As long as the student passes the assessments, he/she will earn college credit from Missouri Baptist for college algebra.   Those credits will be transferable to other schools in Missouri as well. Students are able to enroll in college algebra through Missouri Baptist at a rate of $85 a credit hour.
High School Cheer and Dance Squads
Hold Clinics for K-8 Students

WSD high school cheer squads and dance teams are holding clinics for our youngest cheerleaders that includes an opportunity to perform at a high school game. These clinics also serve as fundraisers for the squads to help with fees associated with their competitions.
