District Adds Delayed Start Option

Effective immediately, the Wentzville School District is adding a delayed start or “snow schedule day”option as an alternative to closing schools for the entire day. Under the right conditions, such as overnight snow accumulations or substantial wind chill readings, the District could delay the start time of all WSD schools by two hours at the discretion of the Superintendent. Parents and guardians will be notified of a delayed start with the same communication methods used to communicate school closing information.

With the delayed start, all morning buses would pick-up students two hours later than usual, but dismissal would still be at the regular time. All students will have a breakfast option and a lunch period, and the Child Nutrition Department will be serving lunch on these days.

Quail Ridge Early Childhood Center would not have morning classes on delayed start days, but would still have afternoon classes. The Chautauqua before school program would start at the regular time, and parents of students who are not currently enrolled in the Chautauqua before school program can register online (in advance please!) to use this service on delayed start days.

Student safety is always atop priority of the Wentzville School District, and the delayed start option will be another way to keep children as safe as possible and still provide essential instruction time. Delayed start days will count as full attendance days and will not need to be made up like a “snow day” when school is closed.
