Dear Top 10 by 20 Supporter:

There are thousands of highly effective teachers in Missouri. But we must make sure all our children have access to these educators. Current Missouri data suggests that high-poverty, high-minority and rural students encounter less effective teachers at a higher rate than do students in more affluent schools. Read more about Missouri's plan to ensure all students in the state have the opportunity to learn from a great teacher.

Training for Educator Preparation Program Supervisors

Missouri’s educator preparation programs are required to use the Missouri Educator Evaluation System to evaluate their student teachers. The goal is for all program supervisors to participate in training sessions on an annual basis. The Department worked with the Regional Service Centers to develop and deliver the initial series of more than 25 workshops. Program supervisors need to refine their skills in recognizing effective teaching and providing quality feedback to our next generation of teachers. There are still a few dates remaining this year.

MEGA and Implementation of the Missouri Performance Assessments
The three objectives of the Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments (MEGA) are recruiting the right people, assessing content knowledge and assessing performance during student teaching/internships. The performance assessment for school leaders was implemented in fall 2014. The performance assessments for teachers, school counselors and school librarians will be implemented this fall.
