Nurse's Notes -Cold vs Flu

A common cold and the flu are both respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. Because these two types of illnesses have similar symptoms, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them. In general, the flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms are more intense. If you suspect your child has the flu please call your child’s pediatrician for assistance. If your child is confirmed positive for influenza please let the school nurse know. Review the symptoms below to help differentiate between a cold and the flu.

Cold symptoms:

  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sore throat
  • Sneezing
  • Mild to moderate cough
  • Mild headache or body aches
  • Tiredness
  •  Gradual onset of symptoms

Flu symptoms:

  •  Dry, hacking cough
  •  Moderate to high fever
  •  Sore throat
  • Shaking chills
  • Severe muscle or body aches
  • Moderate headaches
  • Stuffy and runny nose
  • Severe fatigue
  • Nausea and vomiting (occasionally)
  • Fast onset of symptoms ( 3-6 hours)
Thanks,

Bags For My Cause
Schnucks has a program called Bags for My Cause. They offer 2 different reusable bags: the "Giving" bag and the "Hunger" bag. For each "Giving" bag sold, Schnucks donates $1 to a local not-for-profit. For each "Hunger" bag sold, they donate $1 to a local hunger relief organization. Each month, individual Schnucks stores choose a new recipient for each bag. Carman Trails PTO has been chosen as the recipient for the "Giving" reusable bag at the Twin Oaks location for the month of February

Project Parkway Quarterly Meeting, February 12

Please mark your calendars for February 12.  I would love to extend the invitation to our parent community and would like to have at least 3-4 parents at our table to represent Carman Trails.  If you are interested, please email me at alove@parkwayschools.net .

During this meeting, the following will occur:

  • School teams will review and provide feedback on the updated list of potential projects for each school.

  • The process and scoring system used to develop the updated project list will be shared.

  • School teams will identify any projects they strongly believe need to be added or removed from the list.

  • Participants will be asked to help share the process used to develop the bond project list with others in the community who might have questions about it.

Summer School Registration Opens February 15
Based on parent feedback, registration for summer school classes will be held much earlier this year and registration times will be spread out to avoid having too many families online registering at the same time.

  • Registration for summer school opens February 15, 2018

  • Online registration will be staggered by grade level: 9 am for middle and high school; 11 a.m. for elementary

K-8 families will register online. If you do not already have an account, you are encouraged to create an account at prcommunityed.org. This is how you will register online for summer school classes.
