School Safety and Security
Because of the sad and disturbing news about another school shooting in Florida on Wednesday, I wanted to reach out and share a bit about our school safety plan.  I know that this won't take away your worry as a parent or caregiver, but it might ease your nerves knowing we do have a plan in place. The safety and security of our students and staff are of utmost importance to us. Yearly, we meet with the district Head of Security twice and train our staff in security drills. Relatively new to us is the 4E intruder training where we educate all staff in the training, practice evading the threat, practice escaping the building, and discuss engaging the threat as a last resort.

The drills we conduct throughout the year include:
1 earthquake drill
2 tornado drill
10 fire drills
2 intruder drills

The intruder drills consist of one (1) evade drill where students and staff conduct a traditional classroom lockdown and one (1) escape drill where students and staff exit the building and proceed to a rally point. While we take these drills seriously, we also understand they may be difficult for our young learners. Therefore, we introduce the drills in the safety of their classroom community, encourage questions, and remind them that we are only practicing.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or stop by if you have specific questions about school safety at Carman.
