March 26th-30th, 2018
We are so excited to have the opportunity to "Make Change at LCE!" Student Senate is running a spring fundraiser this coming week (March 26-29) with a goal of raising $750.00. The funds will be used to purchase a Buddy Bench for our playground, where students can go when they are looking for a friend to play with or just someone to talk to at recess. We will have a theme each day where students can pay $1 to participate. For more information on each day, starting Monday, please see the flyer here.
We are at the point in the school year where we begin planning for the year to come! One of the tasks is next year's class placements, and these discussions will be starting very soon. Our teachers, counselor, and administrators work hard to make decisions based on the best interest of our students. There is a lot of thought and planning involved! We invite families to be part of this process by filling out the Class Placement Parent Input Form. Although this form is not mandatory, it does give us insight into what you feel is best for your child. If you choose to do so, please fill out the online form or the paper form by Friday, April 27th. This document may be shared with the certified staff members that work with your child at LCE.
Please join us Wednesday, March 28th for the LCE 5th grade musical production, Thwacked! It will take place at East High at 7pm. Fifth grade students need to be there at 6:45 and are asked to stay with their parents until their class is called down. Attire for students is semi-casual (khakis, polos, skirts, blouses, etc.)
As Spring rolls in, along with it comes standardized testing. While we are still working on a finalized testing schedule, I wanted to give families the testing window early. We will begin testing the week of April 23, and will conclude the week of May 14. Please be cognizant of absences during these times, as it may affect your child's performance on these tests. Also, your child will need headphones for the test. Please check with your child to make sure that their headphones are working properly and/or that they have been using them for technology.

The 2018-2019 school year calendar is on our website. Just click here. We are grateful for the home-school partnership in teaching children that every minute counts at school and want to make a special note: Early Release Days move to Wednesdays in 2018-2019. We know many of you use this time to schedule appointments, etc., so your child can be at school when class is in session. The change takes effect in August. We hope that by reminding you of this change over the next few months, you and your family are ready for the next school year. Thank you for support of strong school attendance. #EveryMinuteCounts

We are excited to be hosting Camp Invention this summer at LCE.  Click here for more information.

Proposition 3: Maintenance. Upgrades & Additions

Fort Zumwalt’s Proposition 3 is a no-tax-increase $35 million bond issue on the April 3 ballot. The district’s 31 facilities, 27 of which are schools, were most recently assessed at more than $550 million. Regular maintenance and upgrades ensure safe, welcoming learning environments for our students and staff and protect taxpayer investment.

Prop 3 would provide funds for maintenance of roofs, parking lots and heating & cooling systems. It would provide funds for continued upgrades to computer network infrastructure and building interiors. Additions are needed at Flint Hill Elementary to eliminate mobile classrooms and at North High School to accommodate a growing student population. A new Professional Development Center, capable of providing our teachers adequate learning space and tools, is also needed to keep student achievement moving forward.

Prop 3 is a no-tax-increase issue. The district collects a debt service levy for paying off bonds (loans) used to fund capital improvements such as maintenance, construction or land purchases (currently 69 cents per $100 of assessed valuation). Strong financial stewardship allows Fort Zumwalt to borrow within the limit of the revenue generated by that 69 cents, so no increase is required to repay the $35 million the district would borrow through Prop 3.
