GETTING TO KNOW ... JOE
We can all learn a thing or two from Joe, who works part-time as a dishwasher at the Steak ‘n Shake on Suemandy Drive in St. Peters. He likes his job and everyone he talks to about his job, knows how much he likes it.

“Joe is a phenomenal worker and always brings positive energy here,” Bethany Klohr, Restaurant Manager at Steak ‘n Shake, said. “Every time he comes in, everyone lifts up and the morale jumps up. Everyone smiles when they’re around him.”

Joe was receiving services from Community Living’s Adult Recreation and Residential programs when he was referred to Community Living’s Employment Services program. In early spring, Pam Westhoff, Vocational Coordinator, began working with Joe through the Building Employment Skills Training (B.E.S.T.) program. Continue reading ...

CATCHING A GLIMPSE OF THE SOLAR ECLIPSE
Staff and participants of Community Living celebrated the August 21 solar eclipse. For all of us, it was our first total solar eclipse, as the last one took place 99 years ago!

For staff and participants at the Mahon Center, one of the four Support Services for Adults centers, they made a full day out of it. Some attended Dardenne Prairie’s Dark in the Park event, while others stayed at the center and participated in themed activities.

Kelly Imboden and Judy Mahon, Direct Support Staff, accompanied Judy and Allison, participants at the Mahon Center, to the Dark in the Park event, which had music, a bounce house and vendor booths. They also packed picnic lunches, which included moon pies and cheese balls, to represent the moon and sun. Continue reading ...

GIVING BENEFITS FOR YOU
Thanks to the state of Missouri’s charitable tax credit programs, you can receive a state income tax credit of 50% of the value of your gift to Community Living, Inc. (in addition to your federal and state charitable tax deductions). Here is an example of how tax credits can benefit you and Community Living:
(The above example is based on a taxpayer who is subject to alternative minimum tax (AMT) and in the 28% federal tax bracket. Community Living advises you to consult your tax advisor to find out how you can personally benefit from this program.)

Community Living also accepts gifts of stock! Do you own shares of stock that you have held for a year or longer? Did you know that you can avoid capital gains tax by gifting shares of appreciated stock to Community Living? It is also possible to receive a tax credit from the state of Missouri for your gift of stock.

If you would like to learn more about gifts of stock or tax credits, contact Carrie Hequembourg at 636-970-2800, ext. 3023.
SWINGING FORE A GREAT CAUSE
With the support of our friends in the community, Community Living’s Swing4Kids Charity Golf Classic grossed over $15,000 which supports programs and services to help enrich the lives of people with disabilities so they can achieve their highest potential.

It was a beautiful day for golf at the Links of Dardenne. Along with course games and a hole-in-one prize package for two to Hawaii, there were other activities on the course – Pickelman’s provided cookies, Llywelyn’s Pub provided a Green Tea shot and cookies, Gettemeier’s — St. Peters provided a specialty drink, The Big Kahuna, and McAlister’s Deli provide tea, lemonade and cookies.
