Classic Movie Night
@The Jefferson Theatre
Friday, September 20, 2019

You're invited to join your fellow LU Alumni and Cardinal Fans for Classic Movie Night at the Jefferson Theatre on Friday, September 20th, for a fun pre-movie party on the 2nd floor beginning at 6pm with appetizers, beverages, and LU giveaways. The classic movie "Friday Night Lights" will begin at 7:30pm. Advance registration is required.

Each guest must purchase a $5 movie ticket to enter the building and LU party.

For more details &/or to register, please visit www.lamar.edu/alumninight

This event is a partnership of the City of Beaumont and the Lamar University Office of Alumni Affairs and Department of Athletics as our way to help kickoff LU Homecoming!!

Tony Guillory, the first African American to play football for Lamar, will be a featured guest at our event From Thursday Night Lights to Black Man in the Huddle scheduled for 5:30pm-7:30pm on Tuesday, September 24, in the University Event Center on the 8th floor of the Mary & John Gray Library.

Free and open to the public, this program will tackle the integration of high school and college football programs in Southeast Texas. Historians Michael Hurd and Robert Jacobus will introduce their recent books Thursday Night Lights: The Story of Black High School Football in Texas (2017) and Black Man in the Huddle: Stories from the Integration of Texas Football (2019). In 1962, Coach J.B. Higgins invited Guillory, a speedy and talented outside linebacker, to desegregate Cardinal football, making Lamar one of the earliest integrated college teams in Texas. Mr. Guillory will share recollections from his career at Hebert High, Lamar, and with the Los Angeles Rams. All three guest speakers will field questions from the audience.

For more details, contact the Center for History and Culture of Southeast Texas and the Upper Gulf Coast at Lamar University.

Alumni Pre-Game Party
Saturday, September 28

For some of us, we may have used an atlas to initially find our way. Others of us, we spoke into our smartphones and an app told us where to turn. For others, it was a familiar drive across town. But no matter how we found our way, the place that began as college, eventually became our HOME.

We all have a different address now, but wherever you are and however you may find your way back, we hope you'll COME HOME to 4400 S M King Jr Parkway on Saturday, September 28!!

Cardinals of all ages along with their friends and family are invited to join us for Homecoming! A pre-game party will be held on Saturday, September 28, from 4:00pm-6:00pm in the Montagne Center for alumni who pre-register. Register here.

Lamar University Announces
Center for Midstream
Management and Science

In an effort to support Southeast Texas greatest petrochemical expansion in decades, Lamar University announced the establishment of the Center for Midstream Management and Science. Approved and funded by the 86th Texas legislature, the Center for Midstream Management and Science will focus on midstream research and teaching across the LU campus.

Due to a drastically increased volume of domestic oil and gas production, Lamar University founded the Center to meet the need for midstream technology and additional needs of the upstream and downstream industries. The Center for Midstream Management and Science is dedicated to discovering solutions to distribution and storage modalities, environmental impacts, and to optimizing commodity movements and market access.

The new Center will serve as a bridge between Lamar University and local industry connecting breakthroughs in access to oil and gas to the downstream advances in refining and liquefaction technologies. Read more
