Niche Ranks the WSD in Top 25 Among Missouri School Districts
Image of Students Working on ChromebooksThe WSD is the 24th best school district in Missouri, according to the latest rankings released by niche.com. There are over 500 public school districts in the state, so that means the WSD is among the top 5% in Missouri! Our amazing, innovative teachers are ranked 35th in Missouri, and Holt, Liberty and Timberland are all ranked in the top 50 high schools in the state. South Middle made the list of the top 50 middle schools (#44) and Boone Trail, Crossroads, Discovery Ridge, Green Tree and Peine Ridge were all ranked in the top 15% in Missouri out of 1,128 elementary schools. A recent graduate left this review on the site: “The educational program and resources for learning are parallel with some of the best in the state. The teachers also are very skilled in their subject matters and concern for not only understanding, but their support for each student, goes beyond the classroom.” #WSDproud

New Lunch Program in the WSD
Screenshot of Video about new WSD Lunch ProgramThe WSD Board of Education voted unanimously earlier this year to opt out of the National School Lunch Program in an effort to improve meal offerings and increase the number of students who eat breakfast and lunch in our school cafes. The response to the new meals from students and staff members has been overwhelmingly positive. Have you tasted the difference yet? Check out this video about the new WSD Lunch Program and be sure to try some of the new menu items when you return to school next week!

Image of student working with mentorAll three District high schools have introduced a new program this year aimed at assisting students in their college search. The free Mentors 4 College program matches students with a trained volunteer who will assist them with navigating the always personal, and often times overwhelming, search for what comes after graduation. Mentors help students and their parents with the college selection and admission process and provide workshops on essay writing, standardized test preparation and financial awareness. Timberland and Liberty will have a “Planning for College” workshop in conjunction with Mentors 4 College on September 27th, from 6-7 p.m. (during Parent Teacher Conferences), in their respective auditoriums. Holt will hold a “Senior Parent Night” also on September 27th, during Parent Teacher Conferences in their auditorium from 7-8:30 p.m. For more information about the new program or to sign up as a student or a mentor, visit the Mentors 4 College website.

2018-2019 Late Start Supervision Deadline
Image of Student arriving at SchoolTuesday, September 4th, is the DEADLINE to register and pay for supervision for our Late Start scheduled for Monday, September 10th. The supervision for students in grades K-6 is $10 per child for each late start day. This service is separate from Chautauqua and only for students NOT already enrolled in the Chautauqua Before School Program.

In order to arrange for adequate staffing, you must register and pay by Tuesday, September 4th, for the September 10th date. (Please note: you may register for multiple dates by filling out the form one time - it is not necessary for you to wait and register before each late start date. If you chose the September 10th date previously, it is not necessary for you to register again). If you have already registered, but have not yet paid, payments can be made by cash or check to your child’s school or via PayPal.

Late starts provide valuable collaboration time for our teachers across the District and yet we understand these days can be a challenge for working parents especially. The supervision option was established to assist those parents who need it. Additional information about late start supervision for students in grades K-6, as well as the link to pay via PayPal can be found on the District website
