A Community at Home: Kirkwood in the Time of the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic:

As we all attempt to navigate these unprecedented times in our recent history during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kirkwood Public Library has been discussing ways to bring our community together at a time when the world is focusing on isolation. We have created the Community at Home collection; an online compilation of user-submitted content that can help us stay connected and preserve our history as it happens.

Use the form below to contribute your submission (photo, document or video); a description or photo of how you’re spending your time, a note of encouragement to the community, or a picture you took on a walk.

What's Happening in Youth Services
Your Friendly Kirkwood Public Library children and teen librarians have been busy at work to find ways to bring the fun and excitement of the library to our patrons! They have been learning through webinars and tutorials, and they have continued to provide reader’s advisory to patrons. Let’s check in with everyone to see what they have been up to.

Chelsea has been busy keeping our social media on Facebook and Instagram active and lively with great activities, resources, and videos! Not only does she do her weekly Book for Babies program on social media, but she also puts together the captioning and editing for other videos. Currently, she is working on putting together more online program opportunities as well as arranging programming with a local author for poetry month.

Julie has been creating so many different creative videos for patrons to enjoy online! Her videos have featured storytimes, activities, and chapter book read-alouds. Julie has been putting together artwork for the 2020 Summer Reading Program, “Imagine Your Story” with the Kirkwood Public Library!

Kathy’s creativity has been bringing joy to patrons with wonderful ideas and activities! Kathy is responsible for making sure that there is a daily activity for kids, and she has provided a wide variety of screen free activities for families. She is currently bringing her popular programs like First Art to patrons with digital programming guides.

You might recognize Kim from her Snuggle In Storytime videos online!  Kim has been busy selecting the best books for Summer Reading Prizes for our Children’s Program. She is currently working on more Chapter Book Read Alouds as well as creating library tutorials.

Madeline is on the search for adventure, and she has helped our patrons start adventures with her fun scavenger hunts!  She has been continuing her storytime responsibilities by developing digital storytime kits. Madeline introduced a super cool program for youth patrons to “Tell Their Story” by creating artwork to share at the library once it reopens.

Rachel has been hard at work assisting co-workers with awesome projects and programs.  She has also been behind the scenes planning Summer Reading activities that will help readers get into the spirit of the theme, “Imagine Your Story.”  She also has been looking into other cool programming ideas, even doing a storytime video!

Sandy is known for her excellent book club choices, and she is continuing her Family Book Club in a digital format. She has made more book club discussion digital kits that will be available to patrons in the future.  She is currently reading books nominated for the Mark Twain Award as well as engaging in reader’s advisory.

Shannon’s adventures are taking place in a world of magic and dragons.  She is currently putting together online programming highlighting Dungeons & Dragons gaming tips and adventure story read-alouds.  When she’s not doing that,
she is helping prepare future programs and is running the Kirkwood Public Library’s
Twitter
.

Shanon has exciting plans for a creative short story contest that patrons will hear about soon!  She has also been busy creating book lists and movie recommendations for patrons.  Currently, she is working on the teen volunteering program for Summer Reading 2020 and beyond!
