First tour for staff: Mead Elementary kindergarten teachers and specialist staff had their first opportunity to tour their new school on March 6.

Teachers and staff at Peter Kirk Elementary have started planning what they will need for their new classrooms in the fall. Each grade toured the new school in February and March. The kindergarten and first grade teachers (pictured here) were the final group to tour the school on March 14. The new building is under construction next to the existing building.

  • Construction updates: Workers have completed roofing. Drywall and window installations are nearly complete. Painting will begin this month.
  • 3D video tour: Principal Monica Garcia narrated a virtual video tour of the new building last month.

Timberline Middle School

The principal and activities coordinator recently met with 44 incoming Timberline students. They gathered feedback from the students on how to make the school environment a place that makes them want to come back every day. Staff are working to create a school where every student feels valued, connected to their community and excited to learn. More updates:

  • Timberline Middle School parents met twice in March to start planning the school’s PTSA.
  • Flagpoles are installed.
  • Nature paths were created and filled with wood chips.
  • Classrooms in the academic wing are complete.
  • Rubber tile flooring and mirrors were installed in the fitness room.
  • Stage flooring and curtains have been installed.
  • Reclaimed wood benches have been installed throughout the school.
 

Juanita High School

  • 3.5 miles of steel cable has been installed in the theater to begin hanging the theater rigging equipment.
  • Carpet installation has begun.
  • Site grading for the north parking lot has begun.
  • Concrete floor polishing has begun.
  • Concrete planters have been poured on the west promenade.

  • Special Services administrators toured the building in March.
  • Framing of classrooms is complete.
  • Crews are preparing to install teaching technology.

Ella Baker Elementary School

This new school opened in fall 2018 with space for 690 students. The student-centered design incorporates features that conserve natural resources and reduce energy costs. The school is named after Ella Baker, a Civil Rights leader, and focuses on empowering students to be changemakers.

The new school opened in fall 2018 with space for 690 students. The student-centered design incorporates features that conserve natural resources and reduce energy costs. The school is named after Clara Barton, who was a teacher before she founded the American Red Cross.

The school opened in fall 2017. Four innovative and energy-efficient modular classroom buildings replaced aging portable classrooms.
