Principals' Corner           
We invite you to join us at our annual Open House on Thursday, September 19 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. This event is for the families of first through fifth grade and takes the place of a traditional Curriculum Night.   

Students will have an opportunity to share their classrooms, introduce their teachers, tour the school, and meet new friends. Your student's teachers will share their classroom expectations during this open house. We hope to see you there.

Parent Corner - Your To-Do List
___ Load lunch accounts (cash/check given to school office or credit card via MySchoolBucks).

___ Make sure your emergency contacts are correct (contact school office to update).

___ If you plan to volunteer at school, make sure to turn in application (more information here).

___ Return your child's nurse alert form (bright yellow form).

___ Put spare clothes in child's backpacks for accidents.

___ Join the PTA (on-line registration here).

English Language Learner (ELL) Corner

New Family Support Group
Is your family new to the country, new to the area, and/or new to the Ben Rush community? We have a support group for new families to get to know other parents, answer questions, share resources, and learn about our school system, culture, and community. Join us Tuesday, September 24th from 3:20-4:20 PM in the 2nd grade pod. Questions? Email Mrs. Howerton at

English Language Learner Information Meeting
Join us on Tuesday, October 1st in the Commons from 7:50-8:20 AM to learn about our English Language Learner program. This meeting is for families whose students are currently enrolled in our ELL program. Come meet our EL teachers! Doughnuts and coffee will be provided.

New and International Students Family Orientation
Please help spread the word! All new and international families are invited to a free welcome event to learn about navigating LWSD, resources and support available from the district, what is PTA and how to be involved and more. Music Education Corner
LWSD offers comprehensive Elementary Band and Orchestra instruction for students in fourth and fifth grades. Participation in the program is open to all fourth and fifth graders in the Lake Washington School District and is offered the mornings before the elementary school day begins.
  • September 3-27: Registration open for all programs
  • Week of September 16: Second year Band and Orchestra begins
  • Week of September 23: First year Band and Orchestra begins

Special Education Corner

District Special Education Parent Meeting
When:   Tuesday, September 17
Time:     6:30 PM social, 7:00 PM meeting
Where:  Lake Washington Resource Center
             16250 NE 74th St, Redmond (near Redmond Town Center)

The LWPTSA Special Education Group is a district wide committee to support and provide resources to any student/family receiving services through IEP's, 504 plans or IHP's (individual health plans). The group also includes interested staff and students and holds monthly meetings.

At the September meeting, LWSD Superintendent, Dr. Jane Stavem will introduce the district’s new strategic plan, followed by Dr. Shannon Hitch, LWSD Director of Special Services who will talk about what is happening with LWSD Special Services in 2019-2020 and introduce the administrative team that supports all the schools.
