Early Learning Center at Old Redmond Schoolhouse

The transformation of Old Redmond Schoolhouse into an Early Learning Center involved designing the spaces to support and engage families and our youngest scholars in this community.

Near the main entrance, a large community-centered area will provide resources for families. The area welcomes all visitors into the newly renovated Schoolhouse.

Ten new classrooms are divided by a shared area with bathrooms and generous space for art and sensory-play activities. There are also smaller breakout spaces where students can receive one-on-one support from specialists, such as speech or occupational therapists.

Did you know?
Group of students interacting at a table in a shared spaceLake Washington School District designs its schools with flexible or shared learning spaces, to better accommodate the learning environment that works best for each student. These shared spaces are located outside groups of classrooms and are utilized by educators throughout the day.

Educators can use the spaces to teach in various ways. Shared spaces allow for both small groups and large groups to interact at the same time. While one group of students may need space to rehearse a play, another group can receive individualized or small-group instruction.
