Here are a few reminders about inclement weather days. First and Foremost: You Make the Call
You are always the best judge of your own situation and what is best for your child. The District makes our decision on what is best for all students and staff and that decision may not fit your individual situation.

If your child is a 7th grader, he/she will need to receive the Meningococcal AND Tdap immunizations BEFORE the beginning of 8th grade! Ask your pediatrician if your child is up to date. You can also check with the nurse to see if she has updated records showing that your student is compliant.  Summer appointments fill up rapidly, so act quickly.

Grace Mattei, RN

So many of the kids I see each day complain about feeling tired or not getting enough sleep.   Why are our kids so sleepy? Here are some suggestions to help ensure your middle schooler is getting enough rest each night.  These should be helpful for adults as well.

  • Have a routine.  Believe it or not, doing the same thing each night before bedtime really helps-whether it’s reading, laying clothes out for the next day, etc.

  • Refrain from drinking caffeinated beverages at least 6 hours before bedtime.

  • Eliminate screen time at least 90 minutes before trying to sleep - TV, computer, tablets, phones.

  • Take a hot bath or shower.

  • Daily exercise will help your body feel more ready for rest.

Reminder: if your child is a 7th grader, he/she will need to receive the Meningococcal AND Tdap immunizations BEFORE  the beginning of 8th grade! Ask your pediatrician if your child is up to date.  You can also check with me to see if I have updated records showing that your student is compliant.  Immunization records can be faxed to 636-462-5126; attn: school nurse. Some emails that were recently sent to 7th grade parents had the incorrect fax number in the attachment, so if your records should have been faxed, please check with me to see if I received them.

Enjoy your break and get some well deserved rest!  Merry Christmas!

Nurse Grace
