Registration For Returning Students

Parents/guardians should complete registration for returning students online by July 29 or attend the Registration and Residency Verification event at South Middle School on July 29 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Representatives from each school will be at the event and will be able to help you complete the registration process and answer any questions.

  • After logging into the Parent Portal, select the student you wish to register along the top navigation bar.
  •  Select the Student Registration Icon on the left side for 2020-2021.
  • Agree to the terms and conditions.
  • Select Begin Forms.


To complete the registration process on PowerSchool, please have a current utility bill (service from June or July) available. Please submit images from both sides of the utility bill to ensure the service address and parent/guardian name are included.

If you complete this information online, parents/guardians do NOT need to attend the Registration and Residency Event on July 29.

Students become eligible to receive a class placement and/or a class schedule after the registration process is completed.

Families who do not wish to have their child attend school in person for fall semester should email their child's principal right away to discuss other options.

Annual Returning Student Registration And Residency Verification Event

Our annual event for registration and proof of residency for families who do not complete the process online will be held on:

Date:  Wednesday, July 29
Time: 11:00 am to 7:00 pm
Location:  South Middle School, 901 SW Ryan Road

Representatives from all schools will be at the event to help, and computers will be available for parents to use to complete registration in PowerSchool.

Parents/Guardians do not need attend this event if they have completed registration online through PowerSchool.

New Student Enrollment
Enrollment of new students can begin online with instructions found under the FOR FAMILIES tab of our website. Or, these families may attend our registration and residency event on July 29 from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM at South Middle School on Ryan Road if they would like to have assistance with the online process. Families enrolling new students should bring the items listed under NEW ENROLLMENT on the Grain Valley Schools app, or under the FOR FAMILIES tab of our website.

Families with new students to enroll who do not wish to have their child attend school in person for fall semester should still complete the enrollment process and email their child's principal right away to discuss other options.

Families who have previously enrolled a child to begin Kindergarten for this fall do not need to do anything else unless personally requested by the child’s school to provide missing information.
School Reopening Planning
Our final School Reopening Plan is coming soon. Families can access the first three school reopening planning documents found under the COVID-19 tab on our website as a preview of what to expect as we return to school on August 24.

ONLINE PAYMENT Option For Middle School And High School Back-To-School Fees COMING SOON
Notices for any middle school and high school back-to-school payments will be sent to parents in August.

*Elementary and early childhood students do not have fees associated with the back-to-school process.
2020-2021 School Supply Lists
School Supply lists for the 2020-2021 school year are now available on the Grain Valley Schools app and the GrainValleySchool.org website.

A special thank is in order to Valley Community Church as they will be generously donating school supplies for every kindergarten student in the Grain Valley School District. School supplies for over 300 kindergarten students will be waiting for them on their first day of school, August 24.

Free and Reduced Price Meals
Free and Reduced Price Meals are available to families who qualify. A family of four with a monthly income of $4040 or less is eligible, for example. To apply for Free and Reduced Price Meals please CLICK HERE. A paper application, may be obtained from the office at any one of our school buildings, or at the Residency Verification event on July 29 at South Middle School.

Returning families need to reapply for Free and Reduced Price Meals each year beginning in July. 
Back-To-School Immunization Clinic

The Jackson County Health Department will be hosting a Back-To-School Immunization Clinic for Grain Valley families on July 28 and July 29 from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, by appointment only.

It will then bring you to a form to make an appointment

D.A.R.E Graduation Canceled
National Night Out has been canceled this year, along with the D.A.R.E. Graduation for Matthews and Prairie Branch 5th grade students scheduled to happen during the event. SRO Danny Iiams will be working with the  schools to recognize the 2020 D.A.R.E graduates during school this fall.
