District Special Services Director Receives Top Honor
Director of Special Services Carrie Turner is the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Service Award from the Missouri Council of Administrators of Special Education (MO-CASE). The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor awarded by MO-CASE and was granted to Mrs. Turner for her years of service and outstanding contributions in special education at the local, state, and national levels. Mrs. Turner was honored at a special reception over the weekend.
 

No school for students on Monday, September 30
There will be no school next Monday, September 30 for students.  Staff will use the full day in-service day for professional development.  The two full day in-service days we have on the calendar this school year replace the late start days we had in the past.  There will be no late start days this school year.

This week is Homecoming week!  Students are encouraged to participate in the Spirit Week theme days at the High School.  Several schools are having spirit week themes this week. Here are the themed days for Grain Valley High School:

Tuesday, September 24 - Tractor Day
Wednesday, September 25 - 80's Denim
Thursday, September 26 - 80's Fashion
Friday, September 27 - Neon Night

Come watch the Eagles football team take on Winnetonka High School at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 27th at Grain Valley High School. The Homecoming football game is a great time to bring students, faculty, staff and alumni together!

Homecoming Week will come to an end with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 28th at 8:00 pm at GVHS.

GVHS Alumni and their families are invited to a special VIP tent, courtesy of the GV Education Foundation, where they can enjoy free food and drink, look at pictures from decades of past yearbooks and mingle with old friends. The admission charge to the tent? Just provide your name, year of graduation from GVHS and email and/or mailing address.
GVHS Athletic Hall of Fame to induct two new members during pre-game ceremonies at the Homecoming football game
Grain Valley High School will induct two new members into the Grain Valley Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 27 at 6:30 pm prior to the football game.  Please come out to support our newest GVHS Athletic Hall of Fame members, Delanne Carlson and Doug Lee.

Coach Delanne Carlson began her career in Grain Valley in 2008, as an assistant cheerleading coach, and became head coach in 2012. During that time, she coached all levels, expanded the program to include Middle School, Jr. Varsity, Varsity Coed and All-Girl competition cheerleading squads, choreographed 10 competition routines, took 14 teams to Regional and State competitions, finishing her career with 12 Regional Championships and 12 State Championships. Carlson retired from Grain Valley Schools in 2019. She is currently the State Competition Director for the Missouri Cheerleading Coaches Association, and runs a consulting company, Valley Vibes, aimed at helping coaches and high school teams.


Doug Lee graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1971.  He was a 3 sport athlete as a member of the Grain Valley football, basketball and track teams. He earned All Conference, All District and All State honors for both offense and defense in football. He won the Napier Award in 1970 as the year's most outstanding football player.  Lee also excelled on the basketball floor and was a 4 year letterman in Track and Field.  Lee went on to serve his country in the United State Marine Corp., and was chosen for assignment to Camp David to ensure the safety and security of the President of the United States. Today, Lee volunteers with a Christian based ministry that works with local prisons.

GVHS Alumni please join us for a Breakfast and High School tours on Saturday
Saturday morning, get your day started at the HS Commons with a free breakfast buffet for all GVHS Alumni and their families. Breakfast will be available from 8:30 am to 10:00 am, and tours of the building will be provided for those that want to take a look. Trust us, it's not the GVHS you remember!

Family Fun Supporting Arts Education
There is a benefit concert at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts this Saturday, September 28 to support the engagement of all KC youth in the arts, promote creativity, and inspire success in education.

Renée Elise Goldsberry, a Tony Award winning star of Hamilton on Broadway, will be performing a concert with the Kansas City Symphony to benefit Kansas City Young Audiences! Her concert will showcase her amazing talents and is sure to engage young and young at heart!
