2020-2021 District Calendar
The School Board approved a revised school year calendar at their workshop this past week. The revised calendar reflects the move of the first day of school to September 8 and allows more time for teacher preparation in August.

May 28 is set as the last day of school. Feb 15, Apr 2, and June 1-4 are designated as snow make up days.

Spring break remains the same and Christmas Break begins on December 23 instead of December 21.

Online Back-to-School Fee Payments
Families with middle school and/or high school students will soon receive email notices through MySchoolBucks prompting the online payment of back-to-school fees. A list of what these families can expect is listed below. There are no back-to-school fees associated with early childhood students. Elementary students who choose virtual will be assessed a Chromebook insurance fee of $25.

High school - Chromebook insurance $25, 9th-12th grade student fee $10. Fees for a parking pass or athletic home pass will be available at a later time.
Middle school - Chromebook insurance $25, 6th grade student fee $10.

Families may also make deposits to their child's lunch account through MySchoolBucks.
Free and Reduced Price Meals
Free and Reduced Price Meals are available to families who qualify. A family of four with a monthly income of $4040 or less is eligible, for example. To apply for Free and Reduced Price Meals please CLICK HERE. A paper application, may be obtained from the office at any one of our school buildings.

Returning families need to reapply for Free and Reduced Price Meals each year beginning in July.
Before and After School Program Registration
Valley Kids Before and After School Program registration is now open for the 2020-2021 school year! You can enroll today at https://gvr5.ce.eleyo.com/. In order to enroll with Valley Kids, you must create an Eleyo account, which can be done by clicking the "create account" button in the upper right hand corner. Once you have created a general account, you will be able to enroll specifically for Valley Kids. You'll sign your child up based on the school they will be attending. Please be sure to look up our family handbook on GrainValleySchools.org for specifics on pricing, full day dates/sign up deadlines, and Valley Kids closures!

Meet The Teacher Night
Early Childhood and Kindergarten families will experience an in person Meet the Teacher Night on September 1. 6th grade students have experienced their in person event and information on an in person 9th grade event will be communicated with these families soon.

All other grade levels will experience a virtual meet the teacher event on or around September 1. More details will be shared as they become available.

Elementary classroom teacher assignments will be available by 4:00 PM on August 28.
Back-To-School Immunization Clinic

The Jackson County Health Department will be hosting Back-To-School Immunization Clinics in Eastern Jackson County over the next two weeks.  Visit the GrainValleySchools.org website for information on required student immunizations. Clinics will be held in Fort Osage and Independence, by appointment only.

Latest Update from MSHSAA
Fall sports practices began today in accordance with MSHSAA rules. Recenty, MSHSAA updated its rules to allow students the ability to participate in activities if the school begins the school year or transitions to entirely virtual instruction. Knowing that there may be sudden changes during the school sports season, MSHSAA also relaxed a by-law to allow teams that complete less than half of their scheduled contests to remain eligible for the postseason in their sport or activity.  Visit MSHSAA.org for their latest press releases.
