Senior Seth Dankenbring Honored As KMZU-FM's Defensive Player Of The Year
Senior Seth Dankenbring was presented with the KMZU Dream Team Class 4 and 5 Football Defensive Player of the Year award on January 10 at Grain Valley High School. KMZU Sports Director Joe Aull was on hand to make the presentation to Dankenbring.

Each year, KMZU selects Dream Team Offensive and Defensive recipients from mid-Missouri high schools standout football players. From these honorees, KMZU then selects one overall Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Dankenbring was credited with over 100 tackles this season and was unanimously voted All-Conference linebacker for the Greater KC Suburban Conference Blue Division.

Junior Jackson Lane Recognized By School Board
GVHS junior Jackson Lane was recognized by the School Board at their January workshop for qualifying in boys 1-meter diving at the MSHSAA Swim and Dive State Championships. This was the program's second season and Jackson's second year as a State qualifier. Pictured with Jackson Lane are Dive Coach Eric VanFleet and Head Coach Kara Liddle.
 
Grain Valley Teachers Receive Innovation Grants
The Grain Valley Education Foundation Prize Patrol made their way through the district last week issuing Innovation Grants to teachers and therapists in four schools. These grants are intended to provide funding for innovative programming to have a positive impact on students and schools.  




Grant recipients include:

Jackie Murphy for “Language lessons” at Matthews Elementary.

Philip Kolster and Ashley Scrogham for “Sabakiball” at North Middle School.

Michael Hoffman for “MO National Archery in the Schools Program” at Prairie Branch Elementary.

Michelle Mellody, Sheila Gann, and Christol Marcum for “Meal support for high school students.”

Stephanie Kallas, Brooke Krekeler, and Kelly Schick for “Wellness room” at North Middle School.
How To Receive Text Notifications Of School Closures

If a snow day cancellation occurs, Grain Valley Schools will communicate the closure in several ways:

  • A recorded telephone message will go out to student's parents/guardians and staff through SchoolMessenger
  • Local media outlets will be notified
  • Mentions will be made on the District's Facebook (@GrainValleySchools) and Twitter (@GV_Schools) accounts
  • A text message and email will be sent about the closure


If you wish to be alerted to school closures by text, simply text YES to 67587. Text NO to stop receiving alerts (standard text messaging fees apply).

Please notify your child's school right away if you have changes to your contact information.

Special Election To Be Held On February 4, 2020
Jackson County will host a special election on February 4, 2020. The polls will be open from 6 am to 7 pm.  Voters of Central Jackson County Fire Protection District of Jackson County, MO will have the opportunity to vote on a bond issue.

CDC Recommendations On Fighting Flu
