GVHS AP Exam Prize Patrol Visits Hundreds of GV Residences Today
Teachers and administrators from Grain Valley High School were canvassing the community today to place 176 signs in front of the residences of students who earned a score of "3" or higher on one or more of the Advanced Placement (AP) exam this spring.

Every year, Grain Valley students excel at the Advanced Placement exams which are taken during the month of May to students all over the world. Any Grain Valley student enrolled in one of the 12 Advanced Placement courses the high school offers (English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition, Calculus, Statistics, Psychology, Studio Art, Music Theory, Chemistry, Biology, European History, American History, American Government and Politics) take the 3 to 5 hour long exams.

GVHS Principal Dr. Jeremy Plowman explains, "Nationally, scoring a "3" or higher indicates a student is college ready and has an excellent chance at excelling in that subject. Some colleges give college credit for 3 or higher scores. When high schools are rated by publications such as US News and World Report or Newsweek, one of the main criteria is percent of the student population that scored a 3 or higher on at least one Advanced Placement Exam. Grain Valley has consistently been rated as one of the top high schools in the Metro and the state of Missouri in academic rigor and college/career readiness."

This year, more than 38% of Grain Valley test-takers received a 3 or higher score on their AP exams. 410 students took 628 Advanced Placement exams. These were the 3rd most AP exams taken by any Kansas City Metro area high school on the Missouri side. 176 GVHS students received scores of 3 or higher on 238 AP exams.

Dr. Plowman adds, "The Advanced Placement teachers and the entire high school staff are proud of the effort and achievement of these students and wanted to recognize their accomplishments to the community."
