Residency Verification Event is tomorrow, July 23

Parents/guardians should complete Residency Verification online by July 23, or if you would like assistance, please attend the Residency Verification event at South Middle School on July 23 from 11am to 7pm. Representatives from each school will be at the event and will be able to help you complete residency and answer any questions.

Follow this link for the instructions to complete annual residency verification and to update emergency contact information online.  If you complete this information online, parents/guardians do NOT need to attend the Residency Event on July 23.

Students become eligible to receive a class placement and/or a class schedule after proof of residency is provided and emergency contact information is updated.

ONLINE PAYMENT option for middle school and high school back-to-school fees COMING SOON
We are making a switch to MY SCHOOL BUCKS for online payment of most school fees and this service is expected to be ready for use by families very soon. We will email all families with instructions once the service is ready to receive online payments. Families who have made online deposits on student lunch accounts in the past are familiar with My School Bucks.

Online payment for school lunches carries a transaction fee of $2.49 per lunch deposit and online payment for all other school fees carry a transaction fee of 3.95%.

Required back-to-school fees include Middle School and High School Chromebook Insurance Fee of $25 annually. 6th grade students pay a $20 Explo/Activity fee and South Middle School 6th grade students pay $5 for a padlock they use throughout middle school. South Middle school students pay a $5 fee for planners. High school students pay a $10 School fee in addition to the annual $25 Chromebook Insurance Fee.

Each school accepts payment by check for back-to-school fees, made out to GRAIN VALLEY SCHOOLS.

Families who find any back-to-school fee to be a financial hardship should notify a school administrator.

Elementary and early childhood students do not have fees associated with the back-to-school process.
6th-12th grade students and parents/guardian need to sign the Chromebook User Agreement annually
Each student and a parent or guardian must sign off on the Chromebook User Agreement each year and pay the annual insurance fee of $25. The link to the user agreement is included below. Parents/guardians are encouraged to review the agreement with their child..

New Student Enrollment
Any family with a child to enroll in our schools for the first time this fall should attend our residency event on July 23 from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm in the gymnasium at South Middle School on Ryan Road. Families enrolling new students should bring the items listed under NEW ENROLLMENT on the Grain Valley Schools app, or under the FOR FAMILIES tab of our website.

Families who have previously enrolled a child to begin Kindergarten for this fall do not need to do anything else unless personally requested by the child’s school to provide missing information.

School Supply lists for the 2019-2020 school year are now available on the Grain Valley Schools app and the website.

All Kindergarten supplies will be supplied by Valley Community Church!
6th Grade Transition Day
6th Grade Transition Day will be held Thursday, July 25 at North Middle School and South Middle School from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. The parent meeting is 8:30-9:15. Parents should bring a check for 6th grade Back-to-School fees of $55 for South Middle School ($25 Chromebook insurance, $20 Explo/Activity fee, $5 padlock, $5 planner) or $45 for North Middle School ($25 Chromebook insurance, $20 Explo/Activity fee), made out to Grain Valley Schools.
High School Class Registration

Senior Registration:  July 30 from 1:00-4:00 pm

Junior Registration: July 31 from 1:00-4:00 pm

Sophomore Registration: August 1 from 1:00-4:00 pm

On August 12, students need to arrive by 2:00 pm and will be finishing orientation at 5:30 pm. Freshman are expected to be at the high school during the entire orientation. (students only)

Valley Kids Registration
Valley Kids registration is now open for the 2019-2020 school year! You can enroll today at In order to enroll with Valley Kids, you must create an Eleyo account, which can be done by clicking the "create account" button in the upper right hand corner. Once you have created a general account, you will be able to enroll specifically for Valley Kids. You'll sign your child up based on the school they will be attending. Once you have enrolled, you will be able to sign up for all of the school year full days. Please be sure to look up our family handbook on for specifics on pricing, full day dates/sign up deadlines, and Valley Kids closures!
Free and Reduced Price Meals
Free and Reduced Price Meals are available to families who qualify. A family of four with a monthly income of $3970 or less is eligible, for example. To apply for Free and Reduced Price Meals please CLICK HERE. A paper application, may be obtained from the office at any one of our school buildings, or at the Residency Verification event on July 23 at South Middle School.

Returning families need to reapply for Free and Reduced Price Meals each year beginning in July. 
Physicals for fall sports and activities must be complete on PRIVIT before August 12
Parents of students participating in school activities that require a physical exam will need to log on to PRIVIT or create an account, complete a health history questionnaire on the site, and upload physical exams to this site. The system provides coaches and medical personnel the information they need to react quickly to health situations. PRIVIT replaces the paper-based forms with this electronic solution for submitting and managing health information.

All students who want to participate in fall sports and activities that require a physical exam MUST have PRIVIT completed before official practices begin on Monday, August 12.

MSHSAA (Missouri State High School Activities Association) has changed By-Law 3.8.1 and 4.5.4, Physical, to allow a physical exam certified by a medical professional to be valid for a duration of two years (730 days) from date of issue.
Valley Community Church providing school supplies for every kindergarten student
A special thank is in order to Valley Community Church as they will be generously donating school supplies for every kindergarten student in the Grain Valley School District. School supplies for over 300 kindergarten students will be waiting for them on their first day of school, August 14.

Sales Tax Holiday

Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items as defined by the statute, are exempt from state sales tax and local tax in participating communities the weekend of Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 4.
