Theresa Nelson, Pam Perry to Retire
North Middle School principal Theresa Nelson and high school administrative assistant Pam Perry have each announced their intention to retire.

Mrs. Theresa Nelson has announced she will retire at the end of the current school year, having served her 34-year career exclusively in Grain Valley. She began her teaching career in Grain Valley teaching 4th grade at Matthews Elementary in 1986, a position she held through 2002. Mrs. Nelson was the first principal at South Middle School when it opened as Grain Valley Middle School in 2002. She was also the first principal of North Middle School when it opened in the fall of 2010.

In a message to her staff at North Middle School, Mrs. Nelson shared "I have truly enjoyed serving the Grain Valley School District and the community over the entirety of my career. While I look forward to my retirement I will miss the school, community, and friendships I have developed with so many of you over the years."

Mrs. Pam Perry has served the students, families, and staff of Grain Valley High School since January 1986, the year her son started kindergarten. Last spring, her oldest grand-child graduated from GVHS. She has served under six principals over her 34 years. Her retirement takes effect at the end of December.

In 1986 there were 220 students at GVHS, today there are 1360. Mrs. Perry says the growth has been a positive thing for the school district and that it is hard to leave. "I have absolutely loved working with this school district and feel very vested in this school and community."

Work is underway to fill these two positions.
DECA students Tackle Cancer at the October 11th football game
GVHS DECA and Sports Marketing students will be hosting a cancer awareness night at the Grain Valley Eagles vs. Kearney Bulldogs football game held at GVHS on Friday, October 11. If you are a cancer survivor, please sign up at the Cancer Awareness table located near the main entrance gate at the football field the night of the game for a chance to upgrade your seat. Several survivors will be selected to upgrade their seats to 2 stadium reserved seats for this football game.

DECA students will host a cancer walk around the track prior to the football game. Students, cancer survivors and community members are welcome to join the walk to support cancer awareness. Reach into your pockets to show your support to Tackle Cancer when DECA students collect monetary donations during the cancer walk. During the event we will be hosting a 50/50 raffle, selling t-shirts and other products for the event, and hosting a silent auction with items donated from local and national companies to help raise funds for cancer research. Additionally, we plan on putting together a few gift baskets for people going through cancer-related treatment.

If you or your family has struggled with cancer and need assistance with tickets to the game, reach out to student Rylie Weimer at the following link. Our ultimate goal is to get as many people from the community to help support cancer awareness at our last home game. Together we can fight this battle that impacts so many.
