Fort Zumwalt School District has partnered with Healthy Schools to bring flu shots to our students who are signed up for it this fall. A vaccination program for 7th and 11th graders who sign up will take place in the spring. The CDC recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccine every season. This program allows parents to sign their child up to be vaccinated by Healthy Schools at school for a $0 copay. An opt-in was included with your online registration. If you missed it, use the button here to sign up.
Effective with the 2018-19 school year, all public schools in Missouri are required to screen students for dyslexia. Dyslexia refers to a neurological disorder that results in a pattern of specific learning difficulties associated with reading and spelling. Students in grades K-3 will be screened multiple times throughout the year. Students in grades 4 and up may be screened if they experience consistent difficulty in reading as noted by the classroom teacher or as requested by the student’s parent/guardian. The screening instrument is a short assessment that will help the school gather information about how your child learns so that we can best meet your child’s needs. It will be administered by your child’s classroom teacher or another faculty member from the school. While the screening instrument used will provide the school with valuable information on how to best meet your child’s needs, it will not tell us if your child does or does not have dyslexia. A dyslexia diagnosis can only be made by a trained professional in a clinical setting. Students who experience difficulty with the screening instruments may exhibit characteristics of dyslexia or may be at risk of having dyslexia. Should your child experience difficulty with the screening instruments, you will be notified individually and the school will discuss ways in which they will best support your child. Please contact Stephanie Sanker if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you throughout the year to best meet the needs of our students.
