Senior commits to Xavier University Soccer Team
Congratulations to Victoria Caparos who signed a letter of intent Nov. 13 to play soccer with Xavier University in Ohio next Fall! 

Victoria says she is excited about the opportunity to make an impact at the collegiate athletic level.

Friday, Dec. 20 is the last day of school before Winter Break begins. Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 6 (A Day).

Parent workshop to address open communication with teens
7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, Library

Students will hear from a college student along with a panel of community professionals and educators during an all-school workshop on Dec. 5 regarding pressures, stress and anxiety.

In anticipation of this presentation, the Student Assistance Program invites parents the evening prior, on Wednesday, Dec. 4, to hear about strategies for communicating with their students. The evening panel will include: Dr. Renee Dominguez, executive director of Family Service Center; Lizzy Applebee, program director at Glenview Northbrook Youth Services; and Dr. Seth Roseman, GBN psychologist.

Orchesis Dance Show: “Elevate”
7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12 through Saturday, Dec. 14, CPA

The GBN Orchesis Dance Company will present this year's dance show, "Elevate.” This concert features the work of talented student choreographers and leading, professional guest choreographers including Robert McKee, Katy Fedrigon and Alyssa Leahy. The dynamic pieces range in style including hip hop, jazz and modern. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the door. Contact Ashley Burns at with any questions.

Winter Showcase Art Exhibit Reception

3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, Library

Student artwork ranging from photography to ceramics, graphic design, studio art, drawing, digital imaging and more will be on display from Dec. 17 to Jan. 9 in the GBN library. A special reception with refreshments will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17.


Senior Holiday Party

5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 17, Cafeteria

This will be a time for the senior class to get together and celebrate the holiday season with food, beverages and festive activities. Admission is $5.  


Winter Concert features holiday favorites

7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, CPA

This annual concert will feature songs of the holiday season and includes performances by the GBN bands, orchestras and choral groups. The concert will conclude with the tradition of all participants performing "White Christmas." The concert is free and open to the public.

Incoming Freshman Curriculum Night

6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, CPA

Welcome new Spartans! Details of this event for families with incoming freshmen for the 2020-21 school year will be e-mailed in mid-December. Attendance is encouraged.

Incoming Freshman Visual Arts Workshop

10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, North Entrance

Eighth-grade students are invited to attend a Visual Arts Workshop at GBN. Activities will be offered in the areas of drawing/painting, photography, graphic design and ceramics. When students arrive, they will choose three 30-minute art sessions from a selection of nine activities. Advanced art students will act as hosts, teachers and facilitators of the workshop.

Driver Education Parent Night

6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, Little Theatre

This event is for parents and students who are currently enrolled in driver education for second semester. It is an informational meeting to introduce newcomers to the program and talk to parents about how to assist their child with driving.
Incoming Freshman Activity/Athletics Night
6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, CPA
This event will showcase extracurricular and athletic programs. The evening will be divided into two segments: a general session/overview, and a time for families to visit with coaches and sponsors in their designated areas. The Booster Club will be selling spirit wear. Early arrival is encouraged. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Nominate an outstanding alumnus for recognition

GBN is seeking nominations for the 2020 Distinguished Alumnus Award. Anyone who is nominated must either be distinguished in their line of work or have made a special contribution to their profession. They must be a good citizen who graduated at least 20 years ago.

Fishing Club hooks student interest

A loud laugh shattered the silence in the Science Resource Center as junior Songyu Ye announced that he had never caught a fish in his life. Ironically, Ye is one of the three co-presidents and founders of the Fishing Club, along with juniors Adrian Knyazev and Derrik Chen.

“I had never been fishing before this [last] year,” said Ye. “Before the club started going on outings, Adrian drove me around and we went fishing in different local places.”

Parents invited to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey

Through the Illinois State Board of Education, parents have an opportunity to share their thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about Glenbrook North and South High Schools. 

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois School Board of Education (ISBE). School-level reports will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents respond to the survey. The parent data will not be reported on the State Report Card. Parent and student identities will be kept completely confidential and responses will not be linked to any individual.
