2019 College Report

GBN has reported that 95 percent of the graduating class of 2019 is pursuing higher education this fall at 142 institutions.

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and University of Wisconsin-Madison are the most popular college choices selected by the former Glenbrook North students, followed by Oakton Community College, Indiana University, Illinois State University, University of Iowa and University of Illinois-Chicago. Some of the other top-attended institutions include University of Colorado-Boulder, Miami of Ohio and Depaul.

Of the 95 percent of students attending college, 74 percent remain in the Midwest – with 35 percent of those students remaining in Illinois. Two graduates are attending institutions outside of the United States. Overall, 66 percent of students are attending public schools and 34 percent are attending private schools.

In addition, several graduates stated they are taking alternative paths to continuing their education, such as participating in international mission trips, serving in the military, entering the Glenbrook Transitional Program, attending technical institutes and pursuing career education.

'Marching band invited to New Year's parade'

Karina Belotserkovskiy, News Editor

Receiving a ceremonial umbrella from London officials in front of his bandmates was not something sophomore David Schaeffer was expecting, but he took the honor in stride.

“It’s in my backpack right now,” said Schaeffer. “I’ve brought it with me to tennis meets, and I keep it with me at home. I can’t let it rain when we perform.”

The parade’s ceremonial umbrella was brought out at the presentation of the Glenbrook North band’s invitation to play in the London New Year’s Day Parade 2020.
