Winter Weather School Closing Procedures

The decision to cancel school is made by the district superintendent in collaboration with other area superintendents, local police and fire departments, the bus service provider, and the Illinois Department of Transportation, and is usually due to severe or extreme wind chills, snow accumulation, or unsafe road conditions. During periods of inclement weather or emergency conditions, the first priority is the safety and welfare of students and staff.

Parents can expect to receive an automated phone call and email. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date in PowerSchool. The goal is to notify families of school cancellations as early as possible, usually by 6 a.m.

Emergency and closing information will be shared through the following sources:
School and district websites
• WGN’s Emergency Closings website, local radio or TV media, and school social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

'Get to know the woman behind the register'

Grace Kang, Copy Editor

Three cash registers jingle with coins. Students with their unpaid school lunches form an amoeba-like crowd around the Quest Food Management Services Cashiers: Jaqueline Younatham, Eva Odisho and Arianna Cox. The cafeteria is packed, echoing with students’ chatter as the smell of pasta sauce fills the room.

In the midst of this, Arianna Cox, Quest cashier, said she enjoyed the familiar rhythm of another hectic day in the cafeteria.

“I like when there are a lot of kids,” said Cox. “The day goes by faster, it keeps me busy and I look at it as a challenge.”

"Glenbrook North students explore themes of self-discovery during performances of Origins'"

Glenbrook North Students explored the concept of self-discovery and what it means to belong through “Origins,” a compilation of six, student-written, directed and produced one-act plays, which ran Oct. 17-19.

The production was produced by GBN students Lauren Tucker and Rosie Salzer, who poured over 20 student-written scripts, challenged to select those that most reflected the theme. Salzer explained how her leadership role granted her a new perspective both on and off the stage.
