ART NIGHT & BOOK FAIR
 Mark your calendar for the BHES Arts Night and Book Fair!
6:00-8:00p.m., Thursday, April 11th
Bring your family to view student artwork in the halls and participate in visual arts themed activities. Be sure to stop in and see what the Book Fair has.
S.T.E.A.M Night

Come on out Thu
rsday, April 25th, to a hands on night of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Mathmatics). We're excited to have Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum come to us.  There will be 12 different hands on activities set up in the cafeteria from 5:30p.m. to  7:30p.m.  This event is limited to the first 350 students. We have about 150 more spots left. Be sure to get your RSVP in ASAP! 
PARENTS of FIFTH GRADERS
1.)  All sixth grade students are required to have a tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) booster vaccine prior to entry into middle school next fall.In order for your child to enter the sixth grade in August, you will need to provide the vaccination  documentation to your child’s 2018-19 elementary school or 2019-20 middle school prior to the opening of school.  Please see your pediatrician or local health department for updating your child’s immunizations.  Feel free to call Mrs. Siegfried regarding any questions that you may have regarding your child’s immunizations or if you need any assistance with this matter.

2.)  D.A.R.E Graduation will be held on Wednesday, June 5th from 9:15am - 10:15am in the GYM. Parents are encouraged to come.

3.)  Fifth Grade Promotion Ceremony will now be held on Wednesday, June 5th.
Classes: Gallaher/Catalano  will be held from 10:25am-10:55am in the GYM
Classes: Shipp/Simpson will be held from 11:05am-11:35am in the GYM
FIELD DAY
  

It'll be a ZOO at Bass-Hoover for Field Day on Friday, May 31, 2019! 
Rain date - Monday June 3rd.
The day requires lots of volunteers.  Be sure you are on our volunteer list.  If  you are unsure if you are,  call and check with Stacey Gavurnik in the office or with your childs teacher.  
Be on the look out for the donation list soon.

There will be NO parent lunches in May for all grade levels as we can not guarantee lunch times will remain the same. 

SOL Tips: 
1.  Please have students to school on time. 
2.  Be sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before their SOL's.
3.  Schedule any doctor appointments on days your child does not have an SOL . 
4.  Eating a healthy breakfast on the  day your child is testing will ensure success. 

CLINIC NEEDS
 The clinic is in need of elastic waist-banded pants in all sizes.  Be sure to launder and return any borrowed clothing items your child may have been given.  Younger children are encouraged to have a spare set of clothing in a zip lock bag.
LOST & FOUND
Our lost and found is brimming over with lost things.  Please come find what you might be missing.  Students can check the black lost and found bin located in the back of the cafeteria. Parents are welcome to come take a look, just check into the office in the morning or in the cafeteria at pick up in the afternoon.  
PTO NEWS
Thank you to all the teachers, kids and families that participated in our play date at Chuck E Cheese's.

YEARBOOK
 Pre-orders for yearbook ended, however you may still have a chance to purchase one when they arrive.  On Wed., May 22nd at 8:30am we will be selling the limited amount of additional yearbooks we have left.  They will be sold in the office on a first come, first serve basis for $12.00 each.
BOOK FAIR
Our book fair will run from Friday, April 5th through Friday morning, April 12th.  Students will have an opportunity to make purchases during their scheduled library times.  Our evening buying time will be Thursday, April 11th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
READING TEXTBOOK REVIEW
Reading Textbook Review

Elementary schools in Frederick County are in the process of adopting a new Reading textbook program for use from 2019-2026.  Textbooks are available for review in each elementary school from March 18 through April 26, 2019. Parents interested in reviewing materials should contact the building principal for additional information.

Everyone can play a part in keeping our schools safe and secure. If you see suspicious activity, report it to school staff and the authorities. Suspicious activity may include: a vehicle or individual in an odd or concealed location; an unattended package or backpack; individuals seeking information about a school, its operations or security procedures beyond mere curiosity; or unusual, repeated or prolonged observation of school buildings, bus stops or students. If you see suspicious activity occurring at school, contact the school office and/or the Frederick County Sheriff's Office at 540-662-6168.
FIXED LAST DAY
The last day of school remains June 5th.  We will dismiss at 1:00pm.
MY SCHOOL BUCKS
  Parents/guardians are encouraged to use the online payment system, My School Bucks, to pay school activity fees and place money on a student's cafeteria account. Parents are able to view current account balances, review recent purchases, receive low-balance alerts, and setup recurring payments on a weekly or monthly basis if desired. Once the payment is made, a receipt is automatically sent to the purchaser notifying him/her that a payment has been received. VISA and MasterCard are accepted 24 hours a day. The web site is user friendly and allows you to self-register. Register on the school’s website or on the FCPS homepage. Click MySchoolBucks to go directly to My School Bucks.
