December 2018
Dear Parents,

The upcoming holidays are traditionally a time for sharing, giving and receiving. We share our love with those close to us. We show kindness to our neighbors, friends and even strangers. At this time of the year, we are never too young to find joy in giving as well as receiving. During the month of December, Aylor students will be giving your family several opportunities to get into the holiday spirit! We encourage you to bring the entire family to see our students perform at a variety of seasonal performances beginning with the Middletown Christmas Parade on December 2nd. The annual holiday 6th grade band concert is on December 18th. Holiday chorus concert is on December 5th. Our winter sports are underway. Come out and support our boys’ basketball teams, wrestling, dance team, cheerleaders and Sparty the Spartan getting the crowd pumped at events. Many of our clubs are conducting community service projects. Keep on the lookout for more club opportunities. It is a great way for you and your students to get involved. The PTSO is selling candy grams that can be purchased for students and staff. Forms are available in the front office.

The second nine weeks will come to an end over the holiday break. Please make sure your student has made up all missed work and tests upon leaving for the holiday break on December 19th. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the guidance office and set up an appointment to meet with the teachers, administrators or counselors. Please continue to keep up with your student’s progress in their classes by checking Parent 360 weekly.

All year long at Robert E. Aylor, we focus on helping students accept individual responsibility and ask that they treat others (teachers, staff and peers) with respect and kindness. In addition to recognizing academic success and perfect attendance, we continue to celebrate our students who exhibit responsibility, respect and positive relationships by awarding STAR cards that can be used for an immediate reward, or they can keep them and turn them in for a larger reward and once they are used they are collected for weekly drawings. The holidays are a good time for students to pledge to treat others with kindness. Middle school children often feel secure if they conform to the expectations of their peers. As parents, you can help your child understand that our differences are what make us special. This month please encourage your student to think of ways to brighten the lives of others. Encourage your teen to talk to you about his/her social relationships. Accepting differences, giving others space to be who they are without judgment, and treating others as we would wish to be treated are concepts that need to be consistently reinforced during the middle school years. We are grateful to have a marvelous group of parents to support our students! We sincerely hope that you will enjoy the upcoming winter holiday with those you care about the most and those who care the most about you. Best wishes and happy holidays from all of us at Aylor Middle School.
