2020-21 School Calendar Set
The School Board has adopted the 2020-21 School Calendar. The first day of school for students will be Monday, August 17. The last day of school will be June 4, 2021. High school graduation ceremonies will be held on fixed dates- Millbrook's ceremony will be June 2, 2021. Sherando's seniors will receive their diplomas on June 3, 2021, and James Wood High School's commencement exercises will be held on June 4, 2021.             
Kindergarten Registration for 2020-21
Photo of girl getting off busKindergarten registration for the 2020-21 school year will be conducted in two phases. Parents with a student already enrolled in Frederick County Public Schools should register their rising kindergarten student between February 3 and 28. The parents of rising kindergarten students who have no other children enrolled in FCPS should register their child from March 3-31. Parents should complete the registration process at the elementary school their child will attend. For information, visit-

No School on January 20
Schools will be closed on Monday, January 20, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
New School Board Members Take Office
As of January 1, there are several new members of the Frederick County School Board. Brian Hester is the new Member at Large, Brandon Monk is the new Back Creek District Representative and Bradley Comstock is the new Opequon District Representative. They join Michael Lake who represents the Gainesboro District, Shontyá Washington who represents the Redbud District, Jay Foreman who represents the Shawnee District and Frank Wright who represents the Stonewall District.

Jordan Springs Elementary School Progress
The cold, winter weather isn't slowing down progress on the construction of Jordan Springs Elementary School. Many of the spaces inside the building are starting to take shape including the gym, media center, administrative offices and classrooms. The new school opens in August 2020.

New Elementary Attendance Zones Adopted
The School Board has approved the Northeastern Elementary School Rezoning Plan that creates an attendance zone for Jordan Springs Elementary School. The new attendance zones will take effect at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year and impact Stonewall and Redbud Run elementary schools.  

General Assembly Session Underway
The 2020 General Assembly session is underway and the school division has launched a new Web page that includes contact information for Frederick County's representatives in the state legislature as well as a synopsis of the bills that have been introduced that could impact public schools.
 VFW Recognizes Outstanding Teachers

Winchester VFW Post 2123 has named Orchard View Elementary School First Grade Teacher Kim Greene its Elementary School Teacher of the Year and Frederick County Middle School Eighth Grade Teacher Matt Stegmaier its Middle School Teacher of the Year. Greene has also been named the VFW District 7 and VFW Department of Virginia Elementary Teacher of the Year. As a result of winning the statewide award, Greene is one of the finalists for the VFW National Teacher of the Year Award.

FCPS Science Fair
The Frederick County Public Schools Science Fair is being held Thursday, January 30, at Shenandoah University's Wilkins Athletics and Events Center. From about Noon through 1 p.m., the public is invited to visit the science fair and engage with students to learn more about their amazing projects. The winners will be announced at 1 p.m.
FCPS is Home to Virginia’s Top CTE Administrator
Congratulations to Supervisor of Career and Technical Education Mary Beth Echeverria for being named the 2020 Virginia Association for Career and Technical Education Administrator of the Year. The award recognizes career and technical education professionals at the school, district, county, state or federal level who have demonstrated leadership in ensuring teacher and student success and have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and effective career and technical education programs.

FCPS 101 Explores Finance and Transportation
The participants in this year's FCPS 101 program met at the Frederick County Public Schools Transportation Center Tuesday, January 14 and learned about the school division's transportation and finance departments. The session also included a tour of the Transportation Center and an engaging activity in which FCPS 101 participants had to work in small groups to develop a proposed budget for the school division. FCPS 101 is sponsored by First Bank and Virginia Property Group.
