Speak Up, Stay Safe

Keeping schools safe is everyone's responsibility. If you see suspicious activity, report it to school staff and the authorities. Suspicious activity may include: a vehicle or individual in an odd or concealed location; an unattended package or backpack; individuals seeking information about a school, its operations or security procedures beyond mere curiosity; or unusual, repeated or prolonged observation of school buildings, bus stops or students. Contact the Frederick County Sheriff's Office at 540-662-6168 to report any suspicious activities.

December Menu

It is important to eat a healthy meal to start the day off right, and keep our brains fueled throughout the day. Here is a link to our  December Breakfast Menu, and the December Lunch Menu

Frederick County food service programs use a computerized system to record lunch sales. Parents may pay for student meals by sending in a check or cash which is recorded on the child's account and dispersed as they make purchases at meal time. You can also  pay online through MySchoolBucks.comYou may pay for student meals on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

In participation with the Federal school meal program, children from households that meet Federal Income Guidelines are eligible for either reduced price or free meals. Frederick County Public Schools administers its meal program without consideration of race, color, national origin, age or disability. We encourage you to fill out the application that was sent home in the first day folders as soon as possible, so that your student can receive assistance. A new application must be filled out each year.

News from the Nurse

Help keep your child healthy and flu free:

With cold and flu season approaching there are several things we can do to help protect ourselves and our families.  The Centers for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Health recommend the following:

· Talk to your health care provider now about the seasonal flu vaccination and if it is right for you.

· Take every day preventive steps like covering your cough and sneeze with a tissue or your arm-not your hands.

· Wash your hands often with soap & water-including after coughing and sneezing.  Alcohol based sanitizer is also effective.

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  You spread your germs and pick up other people’s germs this way.

· If you or others are sick avoid close contact to keep from infecting yourself or others.

· Follow the CDC recommendations if you are sick: Stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone without using a fever-reducing medication such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Attention Fifth Grade Parents:

In 2006, the Virginia General Assembly passed a law which requires all sixth grade students to have a tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) booster vaccination prior to the entry into sixth grade.

Please provide documentation of updated immunization to the school nurse before the end of the school year, or to your child’s 2019-2020 middle school prior to the first day of school in August. No student will be permitted to enter sixth grade without this requirement being met. You can schedule an appointment with your private physician or with Winchester-Frederick County Health Department for this vaccine. Unlike previous school years, the local health department will NOT be offering Tdap vaccinations at our schools.

Thank you!

Mrs. Kluckowski, R.N.

School Nurse  or phone:540-662-3889.  Ext 41252

December Green Tip
The holiday season is upon us. Plan now to help ease the toll we all place on the environment during this time of year.
- Purchase recycled wrapping paper, or save the waste and wrap items in reusable items such as towels, decorative bags, and pre-decorated boxes. You can also make it a family tradition to decorate butcher paper or brown paper. It's easier on your wallet and easier to recycle after the holidays.

- Save on the wrapping altogether and give experiential gifts instead. It's the time we spend together that creates the real memories that we remember for a lifetime.

- Choose a live tree that can be composted or planted after the holidays rather than a fake tree that takes a toll on the environment when it is being produced and when you need to dispose of it.

- Turn back the thermostat. Set it back a few degrees before you are expecting company. Your house will quickly heat up when everyone arrives and all of the cooking is taking place.

Enjoy every moment of the holidays. Be kind to your family and friends and the environment at the same time!
