September 2019
 Dear Parents/Guardians:

Happy September to you! We are off to an excellent start of the new school year. We hope that you are getting settled into the new year and are ready for another amazing year here at R. E. Aylor. Our Spartan athletes are currently participating in cross country, football, and girl's basketball. Our school clubs are also getting underway… please encourage your child to get involved in a school activity and we hope you can come out and support our teams.

Student organizations include: FFA, FCCLA, FBLA and TSA. It is a great opportunity for students to get to know one another and be a part of a larger family that creates a positive atmosphere leading to better relationships and higher academic success. In late October we will be holding auditions for the Aylor Dance Team that performs during our winter basketball season. The Dance Team is open to all grades. Big events coming up include: 7th grade field trip to the Shenandoah University and the WOW (World of Wonders) event is Sept. 27th. School Picture day on Oct. 9th. FFA’s annual Harvest Dinner on October 23 at 6:30 p.m. The Aylor Band department will be sponsoring a Halloween costume dance party on October 25th from 6-8 p.m. We will also have a book fair the week of October 28th - November 1st.

Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” We also encourage you, as a parent or guardian, to become an active participant in your child's education , staying connected by communicating frequently with your child and his/her teachers will help your child achieve academically. Tyler Technologies (Tyler 360 Parent Portal) is a great online resource provided as a tool to check grades, assignments, and upcoming assessments. If you have not activated your Tyler account, it is not too late. Contact our Counseling department for more information. If you have any questions about your child's progress in a specific class, call or email the teacher. Our teachers are always willing to respond to questions and concerns. October 11th will mark the end of the first quarter of the school year. Report cards will be issued on October 24th. Please feel free to contact the counseling department to schedule a conference if you have questions or concerns about your student's progress.

Spartan "SpeaRRRit” is very important here at Aylor as we help our students to exhibit respect and responsibility, and to build positive relationships with their peers. Last year, we adopted a school-wide matrix focused on Respect, Responsibility, and building positive Relationships. We will have monthly lessons to focus on these and other character education topics.

We recognize that your child's education is very important to you. The staff here at Aylor is committed to doing whatever it takes to help each child achieve success. We appreciate your continued help and open communication as we work together to successfully support your child's academic journey. Please know that the Spartan staff works very hard each day to create meaningful learning experiences for your child that will contribute to his/her overall well-being. We hope you and your child have had a great start to the school year and we look forward to the continued success of all students. Don't forget to check out our official Facebook page to see some fantastic things happening here at Aylor.
