November 2019
Dear Parents:

Happy November! It is hard to believe that we are a quarter of the way through the 2019-20 school year. We hope your student is off to a great start and having a productive year so far. Athletically we have just concluded our fall sports season. Thanks to all our athletes and coaches for their accomplishments thus far! Congrats to our Lady Spartan 8th grade Basketball Team who completed back-to-back Championship seasons. These young ladies won the Championship as 7th graders and did it again this year. Congratulations to our Boys’ Cross Country team who brought home a 1st place win at the Championship meet. This is the first time in 21 years that our boys team has won. Thank you to all of our parents for supporting your child's participation and representing our school in a positive manner.

I realize the report cards were just sent home, but we are already two weeks into the second marking period. As we head into the holiday season, some of our students may find it challenging to maintain consistent work habits. Please remember that you can monitor your child's progress through the Tyler Parent/Student 360. Tyler also contains attendance information, missing assignments, make-up work, and important test, quiz or project dates. As always, feel free to reach out to the School Counseling department if you would like to schedule a conference with your child’s teachers.

The Homework Helpers Club is meeting on Tuesdays after school for academic and tutoring support. Teachers are available to provide tutoring and homework assistance to any student that has a parent permission to stay. Forms are available in the School Counseling office.

Part of what makes middle school so much fun and what helps our students to be successful are the types of clubs and activities available for them to join. These include: TSA, FBLA, FCCLA, SCA, FFA, Running Club, Math Counts, and the School Musical. The Spartan Running Club will begin on November 12. Please encourage your child to participate! Lastly, the R.E. Aylor Band and Choral Programs are all working hard in preparation for their winter concerts. Aylor's annual musical, "Aladdin Junior" will be auditioning starting on November 6.

We are kicking off the “season of giving” with a canned food drive sponsored by our SCA. The drive will take place from November 11-15. If you are able, please help your child participate by sending in canned food items which will be donated to the Salvation Army. Additionally, students will be off for Thanksgiving break from November 27-29.

Please know that our faculty and staff are excited to be working with your children. We encourage you to listen actively to your son or daughter, take the time to build independence and responsibility, to engage in thoughtful discussions, and to remain active in your child's education. Aylor is again celebrating our academic success as a fully accredited Virginia Middle School. The success of our children is dependent upon a continued partnership between home and school.

We value each of our Aylor Families and we need your support in this partnership to continue to help our students be the best that they can be! Our opening Spartan “SpeaRRR”it lesson placed an emphasis on Being the “I” in KIND and treating others according to the Diamond Rule. We truly value each and every member of our school community. Students are working on personalizing our Be the “I” in KIND banner which will be revealed very soon. Please feel free to attend any school event or to contact your child's teacher, counselor or administrator if you have any questions regarding their progress.

Assistant Principal
