Opening Day Attendance Record
DecorativeFrederick County Public Schools welcomed a record 13,333 students for the opening of the 2019-20 school year on August 15. This is the third consecutive year in which opening day attendance has set a record. This year, there were 168 more students in attendance on opening day than there were a year ago.
FCPS Among the Best
2020 Best Schools NicheFor the third consecutive year, Frederick County Public Schools ranks among the top school districts in Virginia. The 2020 Niche list of Best School Districts in Virginia ranks FCPS 34th out of Virginia’s 132 school divisions. FCPS is ranked 10th on the list of Districts with the Best Teachers in Virginia and is number 18 on the list of Best Places to Teach in Virginia.             
FCPS Rapid Communication System Text Messages
The Frederick County Public Schools’ Rapid Communication System includes an SMS text message function. In order to receive text messages sent through the FCPS Rapid Communication System, parents must have the phone number of the device on which they want to receive text alerts included on their child’s student record. In addition, they must opt-in to receive the text messages if they have not done so previously. To opt-in, text “Y” or “Yes” to 67587 from the device on which you want to receive text messages. Once the opt-in process has been completed, you will receive a confirmation text message.
Apply to Participate in FCPS 101
FCPS101 Community Engagement Program Frederick County Public SchoolsFrederick County Public Schools is accepting applications through Friday, September 13 for its FCPS 101 Community Engagement Program. The program provides parents and others with an opportunity to learn about Frederick County Public Schools and its operations.   Applications for FCPS 101 are available online or at any school office. FCPS 101 is sponsored by First Bank and Virginia Property Group.
School Safety and Security Update
Frederick County Public Schools and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office are working together this year to provide monthly school safety and security updates which will include information about a variety of topics related to keeping students and schools safe. The updates will be distributed via Peachjar, the school division’s e-flyer system and can be viewed on each school’s Peachjar Web page.

FCPS InspiresFrederick County Public Schools has a new strategic plan called Inspire 2025: A Promise for Progress that will guide the school division over the next several years. The division’s vision is to be an innovative community where caring relationships and authentic learning inspire all students. As FCPS uses social media to share how it’s working to nurture all learners to realize their dreams and aspirations, the hashtags #FCPSinspires and #Inspire2025 will be used. Parents, students and staff are encouraged to also use the hashtags as they share their successes and celebrations on social media throughout the year.
Project Search Honored
Project SearchThe Valley Health-Winchester Medical Center Project SEARCH site was recently recognized at the Project SEARCH International Conference for achieving
83 percent competitive employment for the 2018 program participants. Project SEARCH is a collaboration involving Valley Health, Frederick County Public Schools and Winchester Public Schools that offers students with special needs an opportunity to experience the world of work and learn a variety of skills that are vital to acquiring and retaining a job.
Celebrations and Laughter
Frederick County Public Schools enjoyed many successes throughout the 2018-19 school year. Superintendent David Sovine shared a video highlighting some of those successes during the school division’s staff convocation programs on August 15. Be sure to watch the entire video so you don’t miss anything.
Do You Have the FCPS Mobile App?
Mobile AppFrederick County Public Schools has a custom mobile app that provides instant access to a variety of school and division information including lunch menus, the school calendar, student assignments/grades, MySchoolBucks and school news. The app is available at no cost from Apple’s App Store or Google Play and allows users to follow the school division as well as individual schools.
Orchard View Elementary School Featured in National Ad
NBC Universal has produced a national television commercial for Subaru that features Orchard View Elementary School as well as some of the school’s students and staff. The commercial highlights a partnership Orchard View enjoys with the local Subaru dealership and is being shown this month during certain episodes of Late Night with Seth Meyers and America’s Got Talent.             
Free and Reduced Meals Program
Eligible families are encouraged to apply to participate in the Free and Reduced Meals Program for the 2019-20 school year. Under the program, eligible students can receive both school breakfast and lunch for free or a reduced price each school day. Applications for the program may be submitted at any time throughout the school year.  
MySchoolBucks Makes Payments Easy
Payments for student meals, fees, activities and other purchases can be made online at any time using MySchoolBucks. Payments can be made through MySchoolBucks using VISA, MasterCard or Discover. Parents can also view current cafeteria account balances, review recent purchases, receive low-balance alerts and setup recurring payments on a weekly or monthly basis through MySchoolBucks.
