 Dear Families,

December has arrived and we are quickly approaching the end of the first semester of the school year. Our teachers, staff & students have been hard at work since August. We are proud of their efforts and the growth that each student has made!

Students will have winter break from school beginning Monday, December 23, 2019 and will return to school on Monday, January 6, 2020. All of us at Armel Elementary School hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday season. We look forward to seeing everyone back to school in 2020!

Happy Holidays!
Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Comstock

Planning Ahead
It is hard to believe that wintry weather is already here! It is very likely that we will soon see  weather that may impact school, including early dismissals, delayed openings, and full day closings. Please be sure to plan ahead for these events and work with your child so that he/she is aware of this plan. Does your child know what to do if there is an unexpected early closing? If your child rides the bus, is he/she able to get into the house if an adult is not home or know where to go? Additionally, remember that unless the front office staff hear from you, your child is sent home the same way as normal based upon your transportation form. If there will be a change, please let the office know as early as possible, as on bad weather days, we receive a large volume of phone calls. Thank you.

Emergency Plan Reminders

In the event of an early closing due to inclement weather, your child will be sent home according to the current transportation form on file. If alternate transportation arrangements need to be made, please contact the school at (540) 869-1657.

Inclement Weather One-Hour Delay
During a one-hour delay, the morning buses will run one hour late and school will begin at 10 a.m.

Inclement Weather Two-Hour Delay
A two-hour delay may, at times, be announced.  When this occurs, students will be picked up two hours later than usual, and no breakfast will be served at school.

Information/Snow Emergency Routes
This information was distributed at the beginning of the school year. It can also be found on the FCPS Website  under School/Weather information. Please review it before bad weather arrives.
If school is closed due to inclement weather the Day 1– 5 Resource Schedule will resume where it left off.
Example: Monday Day 1, Tuesday Day 2, Wednesday Day 3

If school is closed on Monday, Tuesday would become Day 1 and Wednesday would become day 2, etc.

Join the All Star Chorus on Thursday, December 16th at 7:00 pm for their concert of
A Celebration of Carols. Come to the Sherando High School auditorium to experience this evening of joy. We can’t wait to sing for you!  Chorus students need to arrive at 6:30 pm and report to the chorus room at Sherando High School.

The Armel SCA and PTO will sponsor The Giving Tree in support of Bright Futures. Armel SCA and Armel PTO are accepting Giving Tree Donations Monday, December 3rd – Friday, December 20th. Please donate your new or gently used winter hats, gloves, scarves, and coats in all children's sizes.  Donations may be dropped off at the Giving Tree until December 20th in the school lobby.
Thank you for your support!
Keeping schools safe is everyone's responsibility. If you see suspicious activity, report it to school staff and the authorities. Suspicious activity may include: a vehicle or individual in an odd or concealed location; an unattended package or backpack; individuals seeking information about a school, its operations or security procedures beyond mere curiosity; or unusual, repeated or prolonged observation of school buildings, bus stops or students. Contact the Frederick County Sheriff's Office at 540-662-6168 to report any suspicious activities.

Our students do go outside for recess unless the weather is severe. Please make sure your children come to school with warm jackets, gloves, and hats. Labeling coats with names will also help keep them out of our lost and found.

The clinic is in need of gently used girls and boys pants
sizes 4 to 14. Any donations will be much appreciated!
