January 2020
 Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to you from all of us here at Aylor. We hope that you were able to spend some valuable time with your family and children over winter break. Refreshed and renewed, we are looking forward to the remainder of the school year and hope the New Year brings good grades, strong study habits and a positive attitude.

We just completed the first semester, but there is still so much to learn and accomplish in the remaining months of school. The second semester at Robert E. Aylor promises to be a busy one. Our sports teams, boys basketball, wrestling, and cheerleading will come to an end during the month of January with the championships beginning on January 11th for wrestling and January 14th for basketball. All of our athletes have been putting in the extra effort and seeing improvement throughout the season. Volleyball tryouts will be January, 15th - 17th from 3-5 p.m. You must have your physical on file in order to participate.

Our chorus and band entertained us with some great performances over the past few weeks and we want to thank our staff and students for all their hard work. Our students have also been practicing for our annual musical. This year, they will be performing Aladdin. We have many more activities that will be coming up throughout the second semester and we encourage you to come and support the students and experience the awesome Spartan “SpeaRRR”it that we have here at Aylor.

Keeping an open line of communication between school and home is a great way to ensure that all of our students are supported as they tackle new and challenging course content and skills in the months to come. With the semester just ending, report cards will be issued on January 14th so please feel free to call or email your child’s teacher regarding his or her progress and grades. You may even wish to contact the counseling department to schedule a conference with a group of your child’s teachers. It is always a good idea to check Tyler regularly to view grades and assignments. The teachers and staff at Aylor are committed to doing our part to help your child be successful and that success starts with a healthy partnership between school and home.

In 2020, we will continue to offer many opportunities outside of the regular classroom for students to make up missed or incomplete work/tests or get assistance with difficult concepts or assignments. Many of our teachers offer days they will stay after school or come in early to work with our students and provide remediation and opportunity to retake tests. If you feel your child needs additional assistance, please feel free to contact our counseling department to set something up. Also, students do not have school on January 20th. All of us at REAMS are looking forward to the remainder of the school year and hope to continue to instill the joy and value of learning within your student so they can experience the personal satisfaction that accompanies academic success. In preparation for the 2020-2021 school year, we are having our rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade parent night on Wednesday, January 29th from 6-7:00 pm here at Aylor.

  **6th Grade Parents**

Before your child can start 7th grade they must have an updated Tdap vaccine. Your child can have this vaccine anytime after their 11th birthday. Please consider making your appointment for your child ahead of time because the doctors will get booked up as the year goes. Again your child will not be able to start 7th grade without an updated Tdap vaccine.

Student Absences
If your student is absent for the day please call the main office to inform us of his or her absence.

If your student is out 3 or more days you can request work from our counseling office before 8:30 a.m. to pick it up that same day.

Bus Notes
If your student will be riding a different bus home please send in a note or call the school with that information. Both parents/guardians must call or write a note if a student is going home on the bus with another student.
