Welcome Back to School
We are so happy to see all of our students and families back to join us for the 2018-2019 school year. We hope you all enjoyed the summer, and that you are ready to jump back into an exciting year of learning. We had a very busy summer here at school getting a new roof installed, and painting all of the hallways and classrooms. We're sure that you'll be stunned to see the colorful changes that have occurred. Our custodial staff has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on cleaning and sprucing up the school for the arrival of our students, and we hope you'll join us in thanking them for all of their hard work. Also, please join us in welcoming all of the new staff members that are joining us this year. You can go to our Redbud Run Facebook page  over the upcoming days to see introductions for all of the new staff members. This is a very busy time of year for everyone and this first newsletter is jam packed with lots of helpful tips and links that you may need to reference throughout the year. You should have received a red First Day Folder from your child when he/she came home on August 15. Please fill out the information needed immediately and return it to your child's teacher as soon as possible. We are looking forward to a wonderful year working together with you to provide the best education for your child as we possibly can. We ask that you take some time to check out all of the available resources that are mentioned within this newsletter, on our Redbud Run website, and on Facebook to help you stay up to date and informed about your child's education. August Lunch Menu
 It is important to eat a healthy meal to start the day off right, and keep our brains fueled throughout the day. Here is a link to our August Breakfast Menu, and the August Lunch Menu.

 Frederick County food service programs use a computerized system to record lunch sales. Parents may pay for student meals by sending in a check or cash which is recorded on the child's account and dispersed as they make purchases at meal time. Or you can pay online through MySchoolBucks.com. You may pay for student meals on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

In participation with the Federal school meal program, children from households that meet Federal Income Guidelines are eligible for either reduced price or free meals. Frederick County Public Schools administers its meal program without consideration of race, color, national origin, age or disability. We encourage you to fill out the application that will come home in the first day folders as soon as possible, so that your student can receive assistance. A new application must be filled out each year.

Back to School Nights
Redbud Run Elementary will be hosting two Back to School Nights next week. We would like to invite families to join us to meet your child's teacher and find out all the information you'll need to support your child in a wonderful year of learning. Grades K-2 will have a Back to School night on August 28, 2018 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and grades 3-5 are invited to join us on August 30, 2018 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Hope to see you then!
Fall Picture Day
August 28, 2018 we will be taking pictures for the Yearbook. This year we have Life Touch coming to take portraits of all of our students and staff. Help your child dress their best and come to school smiling! Watch your child's backpack for information about purchasing your child's beautiful portraits, or go online to mylifetouch.com. Use Picture Day ID: HJ228003Q0. They have many packages available, or you can choose custom packages to meet your needs. Purchases can be made for up to 48 hours after picture day.
Enhanced School Safety and Security for 2018-19
Frederick County Public Schools is committed to providing a safe environment for all students and staff. For the 2018-19 school year, all schools have been equipped with a buzz-in entry system which requires everyone visiting a school to identify themselves and the reason for their visit prior to being granted access to the inside of the building. Once visitors are granted access to the school office, they will have to present a valid, government-issued ID which will be scanned through the Raptor Visitor Management System and checked against registered sex offender and other databases that may include custody orders and information on any individuals prohibited from visiting school grounds. Those who are cleared by the system will be issued a badge bearing their name and photo as well as the date, time of entry and destination.

FCPS Rapid Communication System Text Messages
The Frederick County Public Schools’ Rapid Communication System includes a SMS text message function. In order to receive text messages sent through the FCPS Rapid Communication System, parents must have the phone number of the device on which they want to receive text alerts included on their child’s student record. In addition, they must opt-in to receiving the text messages if they have not done so previously. To opt-in, text “Y” or “Yes” to 67587 from the device on which you want to receive text messages. Once the opt-in process has been completed, you will receive a confirmation text message. The FCPS Rapid Communication System is used to contact parents in a variety of situations ranging from severe weather and power outages to other emergencies that may cause a school to evacuate, relocate or go on lockdown. The system also is utilized to inform parents when schools are closed, opening late or closing early due to inclement weather. Individual schools also utilize the system to communicate information to their school communities.
Peachjar
Frederick County Public Schools uses Peachjar to distribute eflyers about important school events as well as activities sponsored by non-profit and governmental organizations.  Peachjar delivers these flyers to FCPS families via email. You can also view the flyers by clicking on the Peachjar icon on the bottom, left-hand corner of all school websites.  FCPS has saved more than 6.5 million sheets of paper since starting to use Peachjar to distribute eflyers in March 2016.
Do You Have the FCPS Mobile App?

Frederick County Public Schools has a custom mobile app that provides instant access to a variety of school and division information including lunch menus, the school calendar, student assignments/grades, MySchoolBucks and school news. The app is available at no cost from Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
Student Insurance
 For students’ protection, if medical insurance is not currently provided through the parents’ employer or individual plans, parents are strongly encouraged to purchase insurance from a private vendor or the student accident insurance program available through the school division vendor—The Young Group, Inc. Information about plan types and enrollment instructions can be found online. Go to your child’s school website, click on Parents and Students then Health Services then Student Accident Insurance, where plan information and enrollment instructions are located. Enrollment and claim forms are also available in each school office. Click on the this link to be directed to the Student Accident Insurance information on the FCPS website.

Frederick County Public Schools’ insurance plan does NOT provide medical coverage for accidents or injuries to students during school or during school-sponsored extracurricular activities.
FCPS 101
Frederick County Public Schools is accepting applications for its community engagement program called FCPS 101. The program provides parents and others with an opportunity to learn about Frederick County Public Schools and its operations, including instructional and administrative services. Individuals interested in participating in FCPS 101 must submit the application form by Friday, September 15. Applications will be available at all schools and on the FCPS website beginning on August 15.

Parent involvement is critical to helping your student succeed. Frederick County Public Schools wants to help support you in helping your child become an active engaged learner, and our county website has many resources for parents to utilize in supporting that objective.
