School Delays and Closings Due to Inclement Weather
Inclement weather can lead to school delays and closings. Any decision to delay or cancel school is made with the safety of students and staff as the primary concern. Information about school delays and closings is communicated through a variety of means including the FCPS Rapid Communication System, the FCPS website, the FCPS Facebook page and area news media.
Winter Break
Winter Break is just over a week away. Schools will be closed December 23 through January 5. Students will return to class on January 6. School and administrative offices will be closed December 24, 25, 26 and 31 as well as January 1 and 2.
White Coats Presented to Aspiring Pharmacy Techs
Members of the School Board presented white coats to the inaugural class of students in the FCPS Pharmacy Technician Academy during the Board meeting on December 3. The program, which is being offered to high school seniors for the first time this year, was made possible thanks to a grant from the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation. All of the students involved are Claude Moore Scholars.

2020-21 School Calendar
The Frederick County School Board will consider adopting the 2020-21 School Calendar during its meeting on December 17. Once the calendar is adopted, it will be posted on the school division’s website and distributed to parents via the FCPS Rapid Communication System.
A Memorable Thanksgiving
Will Swatman at Macy's Day ParadeJames Wood High School sophomore Will Swatman spent Thanksgiving in New York City participating in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Swatman was one of 185 high school musicians from across the country selected following an audition to be a member of the Macy's Great American Marching Band.
Unknown and Abandoned Graves Found at Replacement Aylor Site
Ten unknown and abandoned graves were recently discovered on the site in Stephens City where the replacement Robert E. Aylor Middle School is being built. Based on what is known at this time, the discovery will not impact plans to construct the school and is not expected to delay the school’s opening for the 2021-22 school year.  The School Board is seeking comments regarding the discovery at its December 17 meeting.
FCPS Earns Finance and Communications Awards
The Association of School Business Officials International recently recognized Frederick County Public Schools with a Meritorious Budget Award. In addition, the Chesapeake Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association presented the school division with several awards as part of its 2019 Communications Contest and VACORP honored FCPS with a 2019 Excellence in Risk Management Award.
Sherando Graduates Release New Book
Photo of Nathan Wagner and Forrest LimonSherando High School graduates Forrest Limon and Nathan Wagner shared some of the concepts in a book they’ve published called Transcend: A Guide to Realize and Maximize Your Potential with members of the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Council recently. The book encourages individuals to work to become one percent better each day. Limon is studying finance at Mercy College in New York. Wagner is studying aerospace engineering at Virginia Tech.
FCPS Earns Green Schools Recognition
GFor the ninth consecutive year, the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) has recognized Frederick County Public Schools as a Platinum Level Green School Division. The distinction was earned as part of the VSBA's Green Schools Challenge.             
Leap Into a Teaching Career with FCPS
The Frederick County Public Schools Teacher Career Fair is being held on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Frederick County Middle School from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Individuals who are eligible for, or hold, a Virginia teaching license are invited to attend. Registration is required.

Free and Reduced Meals Program
Eligible families can apply to participate in the Free and Reduced Price Meals Program at any time throughout the school year. Anyone who has questions about the program or needs assistance completing an application is encouraged to contact School Nutritional Services at 540-662-3888 x88109.             
MySchoolBucks Makes Payments Easy
My School BucksShopping isn’t the only thing you can do online at this time of year. MySchoolBucks enables individuals to pay for student meals, fees, activities and other purchases made through Frederick County Public Schools at any time using VISA, MasterCard or Discover. Parents can also view current cafeteria account balances, review recent purchases, receive low-balance alerts and setup recurring payments on a weekly or monthly basis through MySchoolBucks.
