We hope everyone has enjoyed our winter so far including our snowy days.  Our staff has appreciated having plenty of time thus far this winter to provide instruction for each of our students as well as the opportunities to witness the growth that our students make each and every day.  However, we know that winter is certainly not over and anticipate that there will still be additional inclement weather in the coming weeks.  Please be sure to plan ahead for delayed openings, closings, and early dismissals if you have not yet done so.  Additionally, classes will continue to go outside each day for recess (weather permitting), so please be sure that your child comes to school dressed for outdoor play, including coats, gloves, hats, etc.  As always, thank your for your support each day.

Kindergarten Registration for 2020-21

Kindergarten registration for the 2020-21 school year will be conducted in two phases. Parents with a student already enrolled in Frederick County Public Schools should register their rising kindergarten student between February 3 and 28.  Parents of rising kindergarten students who have no other children enrolled in FCPS should register their child from March 3-31.  Parents should complete the registration process at the elementary school their child will attend.  Kindergarten registration at Armel Elementary School will be offered each weekday during the registration period from  10:00 am - 2:00 pm.  Please call 540 869-1657 to schedule an appointment.   For information, visit-

AES is happy to welcome Frederick County Sheriff's Department Deputy Rick White to AES as our school resource officer.  Deputy White is an outstanding addition to our school community, whose presence will offer our school enhanced safety and security while also providing a positive male role model to our students.  In visits to our school, you may see Deputy White patrolling school grounds, joining our students in the cafeteria during lunches and even helping students with school work.  Please join us in welcoming Deputy White to the AES family!

 Field Day

Our theme for this year’s field day will be Summer Olympic Games. All grades will participate in field day on Tuesday, June 2, 2020  (rain date Wednesday, June 3rd).  Volunteer information will be coming home in March. We would appreciate any volunteers available for field day. All volunteers must be on the approved volunteer list. If you are not on this list and are considering volunteering for field day, please contact the office as soon as possible.

Please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast before arriving at school.  Eating a healthy, nutritious morning meal truly sets the stage for how children will  arrive at school ready to learn. If your child cannot eat breakfast at home, they are able to purchase breakfast at school
for $1.40 per meal.

If you have any questions about the treatment of head lice please call Nurse Ann.  Also, if your child has a case of head lice please notify Nurse Ann so their classroom may be evaluated.

Emergency Plan Reminders
In the event of an early closing due to inclement weather, your child will be sent home according to the current transportation form on file.  If alternate transportation arrangements need to be made, please plan ahead and contac
t  the school at  (540) 869-1657.

Inclement Weather One-Hour Delay
During a one-hour delay, the morning buses will run one hour late and school will begin at 10 a.m.

 Inclement Weather Two-Hour Delay
A two-hour delay may, at times, be announced.  When this occurs, students will be picked up two hours later than usual and no breakfast will be served.

Information/Snow Emergency Routes
This information was distributed at the beginning of the school year. It can also be found on the FCPS website, www.frederick.k12.va.us, under School/Weather  information. Please review it before bad weather arrives.

If a FCPS Alert-Now message is issued cancelling evening activities, please be advised this includes all activities scheduled at Armel Elementary.  This includes Girl Scout Meetings, PTO, and any FCPR  activity that meets at Armel as well as other FCPS buildings.

We will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser starting in March. Students will collect donations for 3 weeks.  More information will be sent home with  students who are interested in participating.

Speak Up, Stay Safe
Keeping schools safe is everyone's responsibility. If you see suspicious activity, report it to school staff and the authorities. Suspicious activity may include: a vehicle or individual in an odd or concealed location; an unattended package or backpack; individuals seeking information about a school, its operations or security procedures beyond mere curiosity; or unusual, repeated or prolonged observation of school buildings, bus stops or students. If you see something that raises concerns, please contact the Frederick County Sheriff's Office at 540-662-6168.

Please note that all parking spaces at AES designed as handicapped are to used only by those visitors with a valid state issued plate or placard. Recently, it has been reported that individuals are sometimes parking in these spots without appropriate state issued plates/placards.  As a result, disabled individuals who must use these spots have been unable to park in order to enter or depart from our facility safely.

While we understand that parking is often limited at AES, particularly at the end of the day, we wish to remind everyone that these spaces  are reserved by state law solely for persons with disabilities. The local sheriff's department monitors FCPS school parking lots on a regular basis, and parking tickets may be issued for anyone parking in these spaces without valid state issued plates or placards.

We appreciate the patience of everyone visiting AES.  Because Armel is a school with a large population and many visitors, please remember to arrive early if planning to pick up your child or to visit the school, knowing that you may have to spend time searching for a vacant spot or even waiting for a parking space to open before parking.  Thank you.
