Staying Informed
We hope your children are adjusting well to being back into the routines of school. There are always a lot of schedules, paperwork, and events to keep track of when your children are in school. We hope you'll find the monthly school newsletter helpful in keeping you informed. You can always look at the latest newsletter to find links to the upcoming menus, calendar, and news about events. We want you to be informed and active in your child's education. If you can't find the information you need in the newsletter or on our Redbud Run Elementary website, please contact the office between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm each day at 678-1868. We look forward to seeing your family at some of our upcoming events!
Online Student Information Updates
 In an effort to save time, paper and money, Frederick County Public Schools is asking parents/guardians to use Parent/Student 360 (Tyler) ( between September 28 and October 26 to review and update the contact/emergency information for each of their students or to verify that there are no changes.  Parent/Student 360 usernames and passwords for 2018-19 are the same as they were last year. As a reminder, e-mails have been sent over the past several weeks to all parents/guardians providing Parent/Student 360 login information.  Instructions on how to review and update or verify student contact information are available through the FCPS website ( Reviewing and updating the contact/emergency information is important so the school can contact you in the event of an emergency, you can receive messages sent via the FCPS Rapid Communication System, and items mailed to you by the school, including end-of-year report cards, can be delivered.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

October Menu

It is important to eat a healthy meal to start the day off right, and keep our brains fueled throughout the day. Here is a link to our  October Breakfast Menu, and the  October Lunch Menu.

There's Lots 2 Love about school lunches. Parents are invited to join  us for lunch during National School Lunch Week, October 15-19 to find out about the National School Lunch Program. Forms will be coming home with your student this week. Please return the form by October 12, to let us know how many meals our cafeteria staff should prepare each day that week. Help your students celebrate National School Lunch Week by writing a note to their favorite cafeteria staff member. Send the note into the office, and we'll post them for the cafeteria staff to see. 

Frederick County food service programs use a computerized system to record lunch sales. Parents may pay for student meals by sending in a check or cash which is recorded on the child's account and dispersed as they make purchases at meal time. You can also pay online through You may pay for student meals on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

In participation with the Federal school meal program, children from households that meet Federal Income Guidelines are eligible for either reduced price or free meals. Frederick County Public Schools administers its meal program without consideration of race, color, national origin, age or disability. We encourage you to fill out the application that was sent home in the first day folders as soon as possible, so that your student can receive assistance. A new application must be filled out each year.

Transportation and Dismissal Changes
We understand that things can change throughout the school year in regards to how your child needs to get to and from school each day.
Please inform the school of any temporary changes by 2:00 in the afternoon. It is important to always communicate first with your child's teacher, and then with the school office. Here is a sample of a letter that you can copy and use for dismissal changes. Example Note.docx When you send a note in at the beginning of the day it allows the teacher to prepare work to go home and reduces the number of interruptions to the instructional day. When a student is to go home with a friend we need a note and permission from both families. 
If you are making a 
more permanent change to your child's daily transportation schedule you must fill out a new Transportation Form (Spanish Version) to update our records. You can also come in to the school office for a copy of the form. 
Get Involved - Volunteer!
Help us build a great community here at Redbud Run Elementary by becoming an involved parent/guardian. Students that have family members that volunteer at their school as they grow up are more than two times more likely to graduate, they get better grades, and they have a more positive opinion of school. Your involvement matters, and everyone can get involved. You can begin by completing our Volunteer Request Form. Once approved you can volunteer to help in the classroom, go on field trips, or help with PTO events. Check out the PTO section below to find out all of the exciting events coming up just in October to be involved with.    
PTO News
The Redbud Run PTO helps Redbud Run to organize family events, build a strong community, and earns funds to help with additional expenses throughout the school year, such as, classroom funds and field trips. We would like to invite all interested parents/guardians to join us for the next meeting which will be held November 12, at 4:30 p.m., in the Library. We have many events planned for the next couple months, and would love your help. SCA News

New SCA officers were elected in September. During the month students experienced first hand the process involved in electing individuals to office through the Democratic process; nominations were made, platforms were developed, campaigns were run, and elections were held. All of the students nominated did a fabulous job during the campaign. Please welcome our new SCA officers: President - Anthony Gelormine, Vice President - Bella Vicchio, Secretary - Layne Mendez, and Treasurer - Jenifer Estrada. Congratulations!


Star Artist
Each month we will be featuring a new piece of student artwork in the Main Office. During October our featured artist will be Amelia Riley in Mrs. Wyant's fourth grade class. The Art classes were studying the element of Line and the many ways artists use it. They brainstormed as many kinds of lines as they could, and then designed a Wack Hair picture with repeating line elements.  Congratulations Amelia on your beautiful Wacky Hair drawing!
Yearbook Cover Design Contest
Calling all Redbud Run Artists! We need your help in designing our next yearbook cover. Choose a theme or idea that you think should be on our next yearbook. Take your time and come up with your best design. Designs need to be on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Place the student's name and teacher on the back of the paper so it is not visible to the judges. Submit your design to Mrs. Jeffries in the office by Friday, October 12.
Book Fair

News from the Nurse

With cold and flu season approaching there are several things we can do to help protect ourselves and our families.  The Centers for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Health recommend the following:

· Talk to your health care provider now about the seasonal flu vaccination and if it is right for you.

· Take every day preventive steps like covering your cough and sneeze with a tissue or your arm-not your hands.

· Wash your hands often with soap & water-including after coughing and sneezing.  Alcohol based sanitizer is also effective.

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  You spread your germs and pick up other people’s germs this way.

· If you or others are sick avoid close contact to keep from infecting yourself or others.

· Follow the CDC recommendations if you are sick: Stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone without using a fever-reducing medication such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).

      This fall, don’t just sweep leaves and grass clippings into the street. Leaves & grass clippings wash into storm sewer drains, reducing the quality of nearby lakes & rivers. Fish populations suffer when algae, feeding on leaves and nitrogen-rich grass clippings, consume the oxygen they need to survive. So instead of raking into the street this fall, take some simple steps to create a household compost bin that will turn yard waste into valuable fertilizer and rich potting soil.
