March 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians:

March is here which means we can look forward to the end of those cold and windy winter days and hopefully move some of the sickness out. Spring brings us a welcome change in both our physical and emotional world and serves to remind us that change can lead to positive growth. We must join together to foster these changes through this time by providing a solid base of expectations for positive choices. Our goal for each and every student at Aylor is for them to realize the importance of education in their lives and that their effort and hard work will result in positive changes now and in the future. The month of March brings the end of the 3rd quarter on March 20th with report cards going home on April 1st.

Our teachers have been working hard to prepare our 8th graders for the Writing Virginia SOL tests which will take place on March 5th and March 10th. This test consists of a multiple choice section and writing prompt. It also begins preparation for the non-writing Virginia SOL testing that will begin toward the beginning of May. During the remaining months of school, it is especially important that Aylor students attend school regularly, complete their homework assignments, and study every night. This will help your child do well in his/her classes and master the course content necessary to perform well on the upcoming SOL tests. Please take time to review your child’s grades and, if needed, contact the Counseling Department to arrange a conference with the teachers. Together we can develop a plan for success for the final grading period.

Spring is a very busy time for us here at Aylor. Our school musical, Aladdin, Jr. will be performed on April 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.. We hope you will be able to attend what is sure to be an outstanding performance! Track practice starts toward the end of March. Please make sure your student has their physical complete and approved by this date. Physicals can be picked up in the main office. Our volleyball team is in full swing and playoffs will be March 18th and 19th. The Regional Science Fair is on March 10th, good luck to all of our students going to the science fair. We also want to wish luck to all our students that are participating in club competitions, and band and chorus assessments during the rest of the school year. These students and teachers spend a lot of time preparing themselves for these competitions.

As part of the Robert E. Aylor Middle School community, I hope you will take the opportunity to attend as many of the upcoming Aylor activities as you can. With parents, teachers, students and staff working together we are able to make Aylor an exciting place for kids to learn, grow and just have fun. As a result of our united efforts, we are also able to share our pride in the success of each of our students. Please join us this spring and catch the Spartan “SpeaRRR”it!

Sincerely,

Dr. Simmons
Assistant Principal

FCPS School Quality and Perceptions Survey
Frederick County Public Schools is partnering with independent research and communications firm K12 Insight to conduct a School Quality and Perceptions Survey from March 16-April 10. All parents, students in grades 5-12 and school-based staff will be asked to share their candid feedback about school quality, student and academic support, safety and behavior, school leadership, family involvement, and budget priorities. The results will help determine how well the school division and individual schools have addressed the areas for improvement identified through the 2016 and 2018 School Quality and Perceptions Surveys as well as current strengths and areas in need of focus. Parents will receive an invitation and link to the survey via e-mail on March 16. Students in grades 5-12 will be provided with an opportunity to complete the survey in school.
The Nurses Corner
**6th Grade Parents**

Before your child can start 7th grade they must have an updated Tdap vaccine. Your child can have this vaccine anytime after their 11th birthday. Please consider making your appointment for your child ahead of time because the doctors will get booked up as the year goes. Again your child will not be able to start 7th grade without an updated Tdap vaccine.
