Dear TTUSD Community,
The end of the school year is just a little over a month away, and celebrating our graduating seniors is a huge priority to our entire district. While we’re in a statewide Stay at Home order due to COVID-19, we have been developing ideas and creative options to honor our Class of 2020.
Nothing would make us happier than to celebrate and honor the Class of 2020 with our regularly scheduled (in person) graduations! We’ve given it a great deal of thought. Since it is not safe to host in-person ceremonies at this time, we are postponing our in-person graduation ceremonies until the first week of August. In addition, we will mark the Class of 2020 high school graduations with virtual celebrations in June, at the regularly scheduled times.
Each virtual ceremony will include commencement speeches by student leaders and school administrators, and each graduate will be announced with a photo of them in their cap and gown.
The virtual high school ceremony schedule is as follows:
North Tahoe High School virtual ceremony: June 11 at 4:00 p.m.
Sierra High School virtual ceremony: June 12 at 11:00 a.m.
Truckee High School virtual ceremony: June 13 at 11:00 a.m.
Family and community members will have the opportunity to remotely view the video streaming at their school’s designated graduation time on Tahoe Truckee Media (tahoetruckeemedia.org and on Channel 6 on Suddenlink) as well as through the district and each high school’s website.
As we plan for the August (in-person) ceremonies, our safety precautions will be in alignment with the health and safety guidelines from our County Health Officers and the CDE, and more information will be coming next month. In the meantime, please mark your calendars now for the following dates:
August 1 Truckee High School 11:00 a.m.
August 3 Sierra High School 10:00 a.m.
August 4 North Tahoe High School 4:00 p.m.
Another important celebration is our eighth-grade promotion events. We will be hosting virtual eighth-grade ceremonies so you and your families, near and afar, can celebrate the successes of your student(s). These ceremonies will be held on the last day of school, June 12, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.
Family and community members can view the video streaming on Tahoe Truckee Media (tahoetruckeemedia.org and on Channel 6 on Suddenlink) as well as through the district and on our district’s website as well as North Tahoe’s and Alder Creek Middle School’s websites.
Please note: if the Stay at Home Order is lifted by June 1, 2020, we will pivot and hold in-person ceremonies for all three of our high schools and our two middle schools.
The Class of 2020 has accomplished a lot and has overcome more than any other class in the history of the school district! As we lead up to the end of the school year, we are recognizing our seniors on social media, and with signs and banners around town. I hope you will join us in virtually celebrating them next month.
Stay well and please continue to be proactive about social distancing so we can beat this pandemic together!
